Questions regarding my 1978 Skylark V8

Discussion in 'Buick FAQ' started by 78 Skylark V8, Mar 28, 2015.

  1. 78 Skylark V8

Hello V8 Buick forum and all of its members

Being new to this forum, Im not sure that my question is posted in the right place, however, Ill hope someone is able to help answering my questions regarding my 1978 Skylark Coupe.

    But first a short introduction.

Im a Dane, with residence in the middle of our capital Copenhagen.
Denmark is a great place to live, with free healthcare, education, schools and universities, social pensions/security for the elderly or people unable to work due to unemployment or sickness, just to name a few of the benefits being a resident here.
However, everything comes with a cost, meaning, that most of us pays close to a 50% income tax to take an example.
Buying cars (and especially motorcycles) is partly due to a well developed infrastructure considered a luxury, giving our politicians a fine excuse to collect extra taxes due to sales.

A fine example could be my own Buick, sold new in Denmark back in 78.

Prices in 1978 started at what would be some astonishing 59.000 $(!) (in 2015 money) for at Std. Skylark, most likely fitted with a V6 engine and a minimum of trim and options.
The method on how these taxes are generated is very complex, and as a consumer not very entertaining as I guess you would imagine?

However, our income salaries are equally amongst the highest in the world, meaning that a McDonalds employee (to make an example on lower income job) would be paid no less than what equals some 20 $ pr. pr. hour.

Well, back to what this post is really about.

My Skylark Notchback Coupe is among the only 17.116 (in total all models) fitted with a V8 (from Chevrolet) at the assembly line.
Its all original with a white leather interior and a two tone paint on the body, its in very good condition, and has only some 54.000 miles (87.000 km) on the clock.

Does anyone know how many of the 17.116 V8 fitted cars that were coupes?
How many of these were given the 305 cui engine?
How many of these were made at N.Tarrytown (New York)?
Would anyone estimate how many of these V8 coupes that are still in operation?

With only some 17.116 made in total (all models), I guess my car were somewhat rare from the beginning?
American made cars never made it big in Denmark, so sales were - most likely due to the price tag and a wide collection of European made compacts - modest.
Only two (!) 1978 Skylark Coupes is registered in my country the other one most likely have the more commonly and at the time newly developed V6 Evenfire engine.

Thank you for any reply regarding my questions.

Take care and drive safely :)

    Thanks

    /Adam
