Post number one here. I have been looking over your site for the last couple of weeks and it has only made my desire to acquire another Buick Skylark that much greater.

I had a 1968 Skylark in high school (14 years ago) and loved the car. I am now on a quest to acquire another Skylark this time a drop top. As my signature states, I am in the process of saving up for this classic.

I have a couple of questions I'm sure someone could help me with.

First, I wanted to confirm the existence of rear seat seat belts in the 68-69 Skylarks. I have been told they have them by one person but a second opinion never hurt.

Also, does anyone have the dimensions for a 68-69 Skylark? I need to gauge how much room this car will take up in the garage.

    Thanks for everyone's help...

Welcome Gregg, consider yourself a Bu-a-holic like the rest of us. The overall length for a 68 Vert is 200.7 inches

  3. Hi Gregg. Welcome to V8Buick! It's always nice to see more interest in the stylish 68/69 models. Good luck in your search for a nice 68 for sale. They do come up on ebay now and then, don't see many for sale here though. There's a nice looking 68 GS400 on ebay right now, down in TX I think. Hardtop though. As to the dimensions, off the top of my head the only one I can tell you is the wheelbase is 112". I can pull out a tape measure in the garage tonight to get the overall dimensions, or maybe someone else here knows them?

My 68 GS does have rear seat belts. I strap my 5yr old's booster seat in, and cart her to daycare in it in the summer.

If you are looking for a base Skylark model only, and not a GS, you will get by with less cash outlay, depending on condition of course. One tip, spend as much as you can to get a car in the best condition you can afford. It will cost less than what repairs and restoration will cost you. By the way, there is a BEAUTIFUL 69 Skylark for sale here on the board, but it is also a HT car. The price is right though. If you haven't seen it, check out the cars for sale forum. I wish I could afford a 2nd Buick, I would drive it back here!

I saw that one, looks pretty nice especially at the price. Unfortunately even the convertible will be a stretch in the convincing the wife department even though she says she won't ride in such an old car. Guys with cargal wifes have it easy in that area.

From a car gal with a boyfriend that's not a car guy. To heck with the "wife department". Save for what you want, get it, and then convince her.

Not going to ride "In such an old car." Well, I'm not going to comment on that! :af: Sorry, I lied. She can always walk!!

My boyfriend doesn't understand either, so I tell him I'm gonna spend my money on my cars the way I want. He better love me or else! :Brow: He drove my Skylark once around the block back when we were first going out and said it was terrible. :blast:

Welcome to the board! There's not a better group of people around. I've got lots of great info. of the board and am making new friends here everyday! :beer

    Welcome Gregg ....
i also am from th KC area and a car nut for most of my 40 years.

if you are lookin for decent old cars semi-locally, i would suggest that first you get your pockets full of money. then take a trip down to joplin and maybe springfield and the surrounding areas.

sometimes you can find an affordable and decent car at the big swap meet in lawrence. i have scored lots of great deals at the lawrence meet (coming this spring)... but make sure you take a raincoat and galoshes cause it doesnt matter how sunny it is that morning, its gonna rain on ya later in the day.
lawrence is a good place to hit frequently anyway. those crazy college kids sometimes dont know what they have ... they just know what they DONT have (enough beer money).

i adore the big buicks myself but if you need help locally, let me know ... you might also wanna hook up with freedster on this site ... he's one of you a-body freaks too.

    rotsa ruk!

i will have to check and see ... the top i offered to sell ya has it ... but it will go with the top.

jc whitney sells metro stuff that is pretty good stuff .... they usually dont list it in their catalog as a whole kit but if you call them, they sell a kit for about 50 bux less than everyone else selling the same kit. you can get the kit for about 250 last time i checked. i think it comes with side rails, header, quarter window, and windshield pillar strips.

what pieces are you looking for?

With two small kids and the expenses that go along with it the car money is some what limited. If I wasn't married to her I would have gone through several cars in the last few years. As it stands now we have had one car for 3 years and the other for 2. Those are records for me. Everytime my brother comes in town now he is shocked and amazed to find I am still driving the same two cars. I do really want a convertible though myself as I have never owned one.

yuk, I am actually headed to Springfield this weekend so I might take a look around Saturday if I can find enough Advil to make that possible. Where exactly do you live in relation to the metro area?

    Thanks for everyone's help.

I know about where you are. One of my brothers lives in Louisburg. Your not too far from me, I'm on the south side of the area in Kansas. I'll wave to you on my way out of town tomorrow.
