I have seen on Year One that they sell the support bracket and bolts for the GS 455 air cleaner. Would that part also be used for the 350? :Do No: . What else would I need in order to sucessfully transform from a stock aircleaner to the GS one on my 350. Plese help :TU: . Also, I'm looking for the nose chrome for the 1970 GS hood...If anyone out there has one, or know where I can get one please let me know.

    Thanks in advance :TU:

Thats what I'm looking for, but knowing ebay its going up to 100 bucks  . Year One has them for a 455, but will the 455 part interchange with the 350? YO has them for 35 bucks and there in stock.

Don't want to offend anyone, but I did some checking in my Buick Parts catalog ( the one the dealers use) and they list the same thermostat housing for all V8's '65 to '74. Since the support for the air cleaner mounts to the thermostat housing bolts, if the same housing is used on both the 350 and 455, then the bolt pattern on the support would have to be the same.

Unfortunately, the support isn't listed. My catalog was issued in '83. They must have discontinued them by then. They do show it in the illustration catalog though, in a diagram labeled "'70-'72 G.S. Air Cleaner". No mention of engine application is made. The other pages of air cleaner assemblies do mention engine application, however. This leads me to believe that the air cleaner and related parts might be the same for both engines on the G.S.

You could always order one and try it and return it if it doesn't work. I have found Year One to be very easy to deal with when it comes to returns.

The bolt pattern is definitely the same, it is the height that is different. The dimensions for the 350 and 455 differ in engine and intake manifold height.

Thanks for the reply Larry...Thats what I thought, the waternecks are the same bolt pattern. I've had some people tell me that I dont need this bracket, but I thought I need it in order the hood to seal tightly against the seals on the air cleaner. I already bid on the one on Ebay..hopefully wit a little luck I will get it. If I cant get it, what are my other options? Is it possible to make something work with angle iron or something? I really dont want to make someting up, I'm sure what ever I make would look ugly   .

    Thanks again guys :TU:

    Larry,
Year one offers a 455 support bracket(one correct in appearance and a cheaper one) Buy that one and you may be able to cut it down to work. They also have the correct bolts to hold it. The support bracket is important, it supports the air cleaner.

Thanks Larry, if the ebay thing falls through, I will do that as an option. My max bid is at $30.00, the same price as the ones Y/O sells them for (figured thats a smart price for this item). If it goes over that, I will buy the Y/O one and modify it to fit. Once again your just a slew of infomation Larry :TU:. Oh BTW Larry, I will make and appointment for Stage 1 performace for my car sometime in January...just a busy time for me right now  . I will keep in touch about this part that I'm getting, hopefully the ebay gods are on my side.:TU:

    Larry,
If Scott is correct by saying that the Black one is from a 455, I am sorry to say that the one one E-Bay sure does look like a 455.

Hope this guy on E-bay knows something about Buicks:confused:

    oops

sorry for the incorrect info, at least I had the answer correct! The cheap one from Y/O is easily bent to make it taller, I had to bend mine down as it was too tall out of the box(use a vise). I also had to file the holes as it would not fit the bolts just right.

Great board! Someone always has the answer!

btw, if you get the one on ebay and it is for a 455, I'll buy it from you! - Bill

I'm not looking to profit here, I just want the correct part for my car :TU: . What ever I get the part for I will just charge you the same....My max bid is 30 bucks just to let you know :TU:

Larry, have you asked the guy which number is stamped on the bracket?
The 350 bracket has a "0" on it, and the 455 one had a "1"
    on it.
That's the easiest way to tell them apart.

I just asked to guy, ARE YOU SURE IT CAME OFF A 350. I didnt know about the stamping, but thanks for letting me know about that. According to the post its off of a 71, but that shouldn't make a difference as to the bracket. I'm assuming that the brackets are the same from year to year for the 350 motor. Thanks a bunch on the input Jeff...if he dosent know then I will ask about the number stamping and see what I get as a response. :TU:
