What are some good sources for information to upgrade the performance of a quadrajet? I have found bits and pieces while surfing the net but not a source for a comprehensive guide that lays out the options.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Doesn't get any better than this!

HPBooks Rochester Carburetors, by Doug Roe. Covers ALL Rochesters, including QJ. Somewhat dated (1981), but still PACKED with very useful info.

I'll second the Doug Roe book. You'll be richening the primary/idle circuit, and tuning the secondaries to avaoid a bog. There's also a good tuning article at:

There *is* more in the Q....

Thanks for the information. I ordered the book today. There are some interesting articles on the web site. I did not realize there was so much that could be done to improve the performance of the quadrajet.

Just for giggles at last Sundays event, I put on a 750 Q-Jet. I found it on a car at a junk yard a few years ago and stashed it away until I needed it someday.

Well, Sunday I was trying to slow down so I didn't get back into the high 11's, as I have no roll bar. The first run was 11.96.
Went to the pits and put the tires I drove to the track with in the trunk to slow it down, and ran a 11.95.

The first round of eliminations I dialed a 12.02, and added the tool box, jack, torque wrench, emptied the airbag completely, and raised the tire pressure in the slicks to 14lbs. Still ran a 11.96 on the brakes hard.:Dou:

Also the gas milage was great! With the Holley 1000 HP, I was filling up at home and then when I got near the track, I put in about 10 gallons.

With the 750 Q-Jet, when I got home, I had more than 3/4 of a tank.

Its really got me wondering about putting that Holley on to street drive.

Ive heard so much about how good the BIG Qjets were for buicks I sent my 800 to John Osbourn, and can not wait for it to get here so I can get rid of my "trick" Holley.

    Rick,

What were some of the things that you did to the quadrajet to get it to run? How much cam are you running? Want to sell it? OK, I know that is not going to happen but I had to try. Are you running an automatic or a straight drive?

    Thanks,

    LaMarr,
John Biggs and I replaced the metering rods, hangar and main jets. Put it back together and went racing. The cam is a custom Comp Cams grind 244/256.
I didn't have any idea that it would go that fast. When I put it back together, I broke the casting that holds the accelarator pump pin. Had to epoxy it. But it works great. I am going to get a new top for it and replace it.
If your serious about buying one, let me know. I will have this up for sale soon.

I'am going to try a stage 3 qudra jet

I'am going to try a stage 3 qudra jet from jet performance. The information about it sounds pretty good. Sorry I have no tips but, to try this carb or change yours to the specs of this carb.
