Has anybody put a qudrajet carb on a 300 inch engine.
I have a four barrel cast iron manifold already.

Reason for question if that I'm real tired of trying to make my AFB work properly. Carb has been rebuilt twice and it still seems to load up and act stupd in traffic with the a/c on, otherwise runs pretty good. I have blocked off heat crossovers and a 1" phenolic spacer to combat heat already.

I know I will have to modify manifold or spacer to allow for bigger secondaries on quad, but that doesn't seem like a big deal. what is the smallest quad available, like around 500-600 cfm max.

Lastly, would a A/F meter in the exhaust pinpoint if I'm too lean or rich, and is it worth the $$.

They put Quadrajet carburetors on V6's. My 1986 Buick Regal with the Gutless Cutlass 307 motor had one, not that it helped any.:D The nice thing about the Quadrajet is the air valves on the secondary side size carburetor capacity to engine demand. I think some Q-jets had a physical stop to prevent the air valves from opening past a certain point on smaller engines.

Some of the "big" Buick V-6's (4.1 L or 252 cubic in) had them. Early eighties.

Holden put Quadrajet's on all of their 308 engines including the hipo L34. They put them on the later 253's as well.
As Larry the wizard stated the secondary air valves are the key to adaptability

You may want to talk to Tom Telsco before you pitch the Carter. (Telriv)
