Everyday Performance LLC has been making strides in our efforts to attain an "OEM" look with our Zinc Chromate Quadrajet finishes. Concensus seemed to be that a lighter yellow/gold color looked "more OEM" Here is what we have come up with now, on a 1971 455 Stage1 carb 7041242 (replacement carb date 0226) Let me know what you think of the finish on the main castings. Questions I have: Too light? Too dark? Does it need more red/green iridescence or do you prefer it minimal like in the pics? Thanks for any feedback.
here is another nice one, this one is considerably less "shiny". the pic really doesnt do it justice.
I like this. It occurs to me that a less shiny finish could be produced by lowering the amount of levelers in the solution. Maybe you can ask the supplier for less levelers? Where I work, we depend on levelers (I'm not a plater, I just depend on them for the work, but have learned enough to make me dangerous) to get a smooth finish, which is the usual requirement. We electroform the parts I'm interested in, with copper, and levelers are real important in that case.
OK, do you sell kits for this, or do I have to send the carb pieces for plating? I'm not quite ready, since I have yet to find the proper carburetor, but I like to plan ahead. This particular finish looks really nice.
Thanks. I dont sell the stuff to DIY. I have used the Caswell CopyCAD kit a few times on my personal stuff and had good results. If you were going to DIY I would recommend their kit. It comes in several sizes so if you need a lot or a little plated they can hook you up. If you choose to go that way beware the chemicals, especially the chromating solution - its labeled dangerous and they mean it. I decided to leave the plating to a pro. So if you want one of my finishes youll have to send the parts in.
Yes, that plating solution is really nasty, plus having hex chrome in it. Thanks for the lead on the supplier.
