Group, I have been battling a rougher and higher than it should be idle for longer than I care to think about. SPECS: -70 455 stg 1 valves -straighline 224/236 -850 QJ rebuilt by Poston's guy -cast Iron Int/ext - timing 12 intital 32 total Unported vacuum adv -idle in park 1100-1150 -idle in gear 750-800 Ported vacuum adv -idle in park 950-1000 -idle in gear 750-800 The idle is to high (in my opinion), any lower and it will stumble a bit. It also seems to change from time to time. After playing with timing, adjusting the air screws, playing with the power piston spring length, and making sure I am on the idle circuit. I discovered that there is probably .030 to .040 play in the primary throttle shaft. If I spray a bit of carb cleaner in the throttle bore toward the shaft it will leak out on the outside of the throttle shaft. question: how much play is acceptable? Isnt it a standard procedure for a rebuilt carb to put throttle bushings in? Thanks James
Could be wrong I believe the Ignition Man went into detail about this subject a few months ago. You may want to search his posts and find it. HTH
