John Osborne Quadrajet Performance Mod and Rebuild Specialist 270-7374467 Cost a couple hundred bucks, but it's well worth it:TU:
QJ Rebuilder Call Norm Dihle. He has the best idling QJets around. We've tried them all. Power is about the same once fueling is correct. His number is 313-565-8507.
Hummm I bet Norm uses the "Jiffy kit" (from Standard Products or something like that). They are the only ones the supply the anti-slosh for the bowl. Back in the 80's I rebuilt mine. Ran great, but during the idle, it had a little surge in it. This local guy, known to have a drinking problem, told me to buy the Jiffy kit and he would fix it $10. I told him I would get the kit and I would install it (in front of him), and if it fixed it I would give him his money.:Smarty: Well, it took about 10 minutes...........I gave him a $20:grin: :jd:  I could NOT believe it worked, later found out he had a job for two years rebuilding carbs, and that was the ONLY kit the company would use.:Smarty:
Besides a 'sticky throttle linkage' situation I've encountered (solved with grease), my John Osborne carburetor idles great. No hesitation, no bogs, and DEFINITELY responsive. Besides adjusting the choke screw and idle screw (which were both high), it was a bolt on. I've only had the car out three times, for a total of about 8-10 hours driving time. So far I've experienced NO problems. Rob C of Stage1 Automotive also drove it and stated there were no problems. :TU: I'd recommend John Osborne again.
Bill, JOP455@aol.com:TU: I also recommend John highly. He tests your Q-jet on his own GS before sending it to you.
Thanks Larry. I've heard so many good things about him that I thought it was time he and I had a little chat. I was just reading about the Edelbrock 850cfm Quadrajet which seems to have all the good mods and I thought I'd get John's opinion on what the ultimate Quadrajet might consist of.
