    Guys:

Is the carb a suitable candiate for a rebuild? The '70 350 I am building is bone stock with the exception of a perfomance minded cam and ported exhaust manifolds.

The intake is a stock cast iron unit.

Would I be better of just buying an after market comparable from say JEGS?:Do No:

    Thanks for your advice.

    maybe

Thats an emission carb from a 1973 350 auto....or is it? Are you sure it has the 1 in front? I though they started adding the "1" in 1976?? Anyway, send it to a good builder and they can make it work for you, better than the catalog Q jets. My 2 cents - Bill

    #s ?

The part # I reference is what the E-bay listing says. It is described as a 73 350 auto unit.

I am putting it in my Apollo, but on a 1970 engine. If there is a downside to this "emissions" carb, I'll keep looking.

Sometimes you can get a core for peanuts so I thought I would give it a shot.

    Thanks for your reply.

Bills correct, the leading 1 didn't start until 75/76. So, either that 3 isn't a 3, or there is no 1. If there's no 1, then it's a '73 emissioned carb, tho not too severly damaged. If there is a leading 1, and that 3 is an 8, then it be a '78 carb in which case, stay away!

The '73 carb would be a 800cfm unit, but built restricted to an extent. Many people say to go for a '72 carb as in '72 they were all 800cfm. Tho, I prefer a non-epa carb, so prefer a 7041540, 7041243, or 7041242 all are '71 455 Carbs and are 800cfm. I should know, I have three..

    Note: 1243 = 455 Man Trans, 1540 = 455 Auto, 1242 = 455 Stg 1. (don't ask me where they got the numbering scheme :puzzled: )

I'm with Robert on the paint job... Who 'paints' carb bodies?

By the last 4 numbers 1433, and the carb #, means it's a '73 carb built on the 143rd day of the year. The guy selling it obviously can't read to well.. :Dou:

Buy, modify and use in good health.. :TU:

    http

Dave - heres what I do:

Go to the web page, copy the URL (address) I highlite (click on it once) the URL and use the " CTRL C" method. (hold down the Ctrl key and hit the C key)

In your post, above the text box is a series of buttons under "vB code". click on the "http://" button. this will bring up a box "users prompt" Type in what you want to call the link - thats what will be displayed in the post. Hit "OK" and a second box will come up for the URL. copy the URL from the web page into the box. I simply hit "Ctrl V" and it pops in. Click OK and you are done! continue typing until you are finished with the post as usual.

    carb

Scott - I thought all 350 carbs were 750 cfm, only the 455 carbs went to 800cfm?

anyway, I think this carb should be good for Dave's application after its rebuilt. Thats the real question!

For $9 you can't go wrong even if it takes $250 to rebuild.

As I know it, everything in & after '72 is 800cfm, just epa'ed up and built a bit hindered which both got progressivly worse over the years.. I wouldn't take anything with a 1 prefix.. I agree, this carb should be fine and dandy for his application after striped of all hiddiious paint and gone through. So true! You can't go too wrong for only $10.. :TU: I pay more then that at the yards for them! :puzzled:

    Scott,
Only the 71 and up 455 carbs are 800's. The 350 carbs are 750 CFM. The difference is in the primary side large venturi which is formed by the carb body. If you look at the spec sheet in a chassis manual from 71 -74, you'll see that the large venturi measures 1 7/32" for the 455 carbs and 1 3/32" for the 350 carbs. That's 1/8" difference, and that's where the extra CFM is. You can see the difference if you compare them side by side. The best way is just to have a list of the 455 carb #'s when looking at the swap meets.:TU:

My bad... :gt: Someone moons ago gave me the impression that everything after '72 was 800... I only have my '71 chassis manual but it lists everything except the hanger for the thing... :) I always just tell my looking these days.. If the carb has 704XXXX and it eyeballs okay then I'm good.. :TU: Tho don't ask why I have a stockpile of carbs.. I don't even know.... :Dou:

    Many thanks!

Thanks guys for the great info. Hopefully it will make a good core for John O. or the Quadshop.

Then again, I normally get outbid.........even on broken crap.

Bill - thanks for the link posting tutorial. I've needed to learn how to do that for a long time.:beer

I'm looking to drop a 4bbl onto my 350 It would be nice to know so i can search and kinda poke around at carbs.

If this is a decent one I will be biding on it.

7045244 would be a 1975 epa carb built on the 45th day of 1975. I wouldn't bid on that one..

7043251 would be a 1973 carb. The 4 digit code isn't listed so you dunno what day and year it was built.

If those are the ones your going to pick from, take the '73.. The choke assembly should be able to transplant from a donor carb.

If you have time, I'd continue looking for a '72 or earlier.
