Putting a manual transmission behind a 1980 4.1 V6 questions

Discussion in 'U-shift em' started by theholycow, Jul 6, 2010.

  1. I have a 1980 4.1 V6, which is an externally balanced engine. It is difficult to find an appropriate flywheel. The few I've found specified for my application say they're for internally balanced engines. I think having a machine shop (im)balance a neutral-balanced flywheel may get expensive. Any suggestions?

I'm learning as I go. One thing I don't know is if my crankshaft is drilled for a pilot bushing. How can I tell? How does a pilot bushing hole differ from one only for use with a torque converter?

I know most folks here are V8 guys (what with this being V8Buick.com) but there's no forum for normally aspirated V6 non-racing Buicks and the turbo V6 Buick forums seem very anti-manual-transmission...
