I brought one of the pure power filters. And I thought I share my findings with the rest of you. First off the only down side of this filter is a positive buick motors poor oiling system. They pick up about 6 to 8 psi of oil pressure they filter 100 % of the oil is the next selling point. Only down side was the price. Here are a few write ups. http://vetteweb.com/tech/vet_0508_oilfilter/ http://www.strokerengine.com/PurePower.html http://www.scocar.com/gopurepower/pr/pr1.htm http://www.semaphotos.com/imageSingle/ImageID=SEM2005103186197
Here are pics of the one I brought for my motor. I will have no trouble with clearance issues at all. I talked to the owner of this company very nice man. He said the best part of this filter is the patented kidney or opening that allows all the oil to get to the filtering part. This filter he said will filter 27 gpm of 100% filtered oil. Also there is a small maganet that is strong enough to pickup 1/2 lb of metal. built in.
This is the part # for the buick 455. Notice the no by pass. Compare the openings to the gm filter. I see daylight!!!! This is the powerful magnet.
1/2 lb of metal??? omg, thats like a couple of pistons  looks like a nice product, overkill for me ou:
Nice filter. Is the magnet removable for cleaning? I've been using a System 1 for 10 years. Be prepared to be scared at what you'll find in that thing.
I can't tell from the photos, but do they offer it with antidrain back capability? Buicks really need a filter with that capability to keep them full of oil. Jay
No the magnet isn't removable. I asked Mr Tidwell the same question. He said just take a small screw driver and clean any big particle off. I heard the same thing about the findings in these filters. :eek2:
Thanks I like it a lot. This is one of the areas I dont mine over kill. For back up I have a oil plug that can pick up a 5 pound hammer!!! :TU:
Jay I did some research on that. And what I found is a filter with almost no restrictons oil pressure is almost insantaneous. I dont think a motor should lose it's prime over short periods of time. Also from what I read System 1 filters dont come with it. but you can request it from them. but they say it adds to restriction and you dont need them. Plus this filter with its larger kidneys or openings is less restrictive than the system 1. Read these. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=51706&highlight=system+oil+filter http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=43319&highlight=system+oil+filter http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=20564&highlight=system+oil+filter http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=17467&highlight=system+oil+filter
I use the System1 filter. Back when I first ordered it, I called System1 and asked about the anti drainback valve. They told me the same thing, they would send me one but it would result in a restriction. I tried it, and saw no difference in the amount of time needed to build oil pressure from a cold start. All it is, is a rubber ring that installs in the filter. It blocks the outer holes to prevent oil from back flowing out of the filter. I think some does anyway.
Larry, I pretty much agree with you assessment of the antidrainback valve. And I paid $12 ea for 2 of them!
Right on Terrance, thanks for the new product tip and part number. Not only does it have superior functionality and filtering performance, it will look awesome in the engine bay as well! Just ordered one myself. What brand of oil plug are you using and where did you obtain it? How's your race engine progressing? :TU: Take care, Graham
You're welcome Graham, Just trying to return the favor. Of the the hot valve set up. :TU: The plug I run is called the super plug. I saw it in action up here in H town. At the new car show expo some years back. Saw them pick this monkey wrench up with it along with what looked like 10 pound hammer. I almost pushed spectators out the way to go buy one. just kidding. I think they are made here in Houston.
one more. This is the link to there web site. http://www.superplug.com/oilfilters.html and http://www.superplug.com/diagram.html My motor is coming along slowly. still stock piling all my parts. Looking into new tech to make it even better. As you can see. I had my heads flowed again. This time with numbers I'm very happy with. All I can say is when I saw these numbers. I changed my mind once again. ou: I wanted to go with a roller cam instead of a custom solid. But seeing what just happened to Rick Crawford. Has scared me off. o No:
Is this filter smaller then a stock type filter, I'm running a napa filter now, no more frams. The reason why I ask is because both my buick and olds use the same filter number however the filter is a tight fit in the olds with the headers. I would like to use this filter in the olds if its that good especially since my oil pressure drops down to almost 12 psi hot when the car is really driven hard. want to do what I can to get it up to 15 to 20psi when super hot. Allen here is my Purolator short filter off my car beside my new pure power one. No jokes about the condition of the filter. :blast: car been out in the elements for several years. smaller in height and with I think this would be just what your looking for. PM me if you're looking at getting one I have some good contacts. :TU:
I like it...how do I get it.. My new motor would appreciate such a filter..let me know what to do ...thanks....Fish
So how do the big guys (Weise, Burek, TA performance, etc.) feel about the purepower filter in comparison to the tried and true system one filter. From the readings it does look good but of course I do recall my engine builder in my younger days steering me clear of some products that I thought looked good, he knew better from experience. Also texas ranger about that superplug, I guess i would have to get head size and thread count on my old plug to see if one is available for my application since I'm not using stock pans on my cars. More info if you can, their website didn't list a whole lot. Allen allioop108@aol.com
Allen I called Mike at TA just before I posted this to get his take on it. I don't think he had heard of it. But I gave him the website address. He sounded interested. I feel the same way about buying the latest and greatest. I had my doubts about this filter still do to some degree. but I have been blessed with a job that allows me to go see a product of interest up close a personal. To answer most of my qusetions. And judge it for my self. It just so happen that I didn't have to go far right here in Houston is where I got to see it on a 40,000 dollar BBC mountain motor that let go on the dyno. getting to see inside the filter made me feel like I made a great investment. I wanted to ask the guy if I could take some pics but just having a 40,000 motor let go he was not in a good mood. :blast: :af:  Also a by product of this filter is a hp and tq gain because of the freeing of the restriction. I'm willing to send this filter to Jim Weise for testing if he would be willing. He tested the HVH super sucker carb spacer a while back I sent to be tested. Which proved to pick up some power. I'm going over to my buddy Shawn Carlin's house this weekend. To pickup a motor he has already told me that I wont be leaving his yard with the filter in my possession. I will have to get another. I also would like to here what they think of this filter. About the super plug I brought that plug at the Houston Auto expo and car show about 8 years ago. I have not been able to get a hold of anyone also. I kept the box it came in that had a local phone number I had been looking for it the last 4 days. Someone deleted the pics of the magnet. o No:
well keep me posted and I'm still interested in trying it. Looks promising plus the company seems to have a lot of products and not just one lets get rich scheme. Allen
