On my convertible project I posted an engine shot and a body in primer shot somewhere! Here is a car @ Flint that has the same paint-with white top and interior. Mine is Sea Foam Green with black custom interior.
I'm supposed to get a paint sample today to approve. Laquer is no longer available from DuPont, some Corvette restoration shop in Indiana bought all of it! Anyway, here is the engine. Notice that beautiful bracket for the a/c compressor-special one for clearing the al. valve cover. Original carbs rebiult by Carmen. Dang this went way farther than I wanted! I JUST WANTED A PAINTJOB. of course all the body was rusted and damaged, even the header bow was in way worse shape than I thought. I got a car from CA for the body, frame. There was a dark green 4-speed convertible for sale last year. I probably would have been better off just buying that one, but the ##s did not match and I was already working on this one. Dang my impatience! must reeelaaaax. its ok.
here is one thats getting done I'm sending upholstry off to be redone. It was nice out, lets see how these turned out.
65 Wildcat How do you like the Firestone Bias Ply meats Arrgh. New Old Stock (L-78's or something like that) from some crazy guy in Michigan. They are Tall.
Side view The spring coming out of the firewall next to the brake booster is the overcenter spring. Talk about hen's teeth, hard to replace! Wild Bill (Topcat) and I discussed a repo-maybe just have a machine shop make some extras.
Ted, Looking good :TU: I see you've replaced bodys. I'm in the middle of a body swap myself. I found a good western body & frame and....well you know the rest. Anyway, what is an overcenter spring?
Ted, you mentioned the tires. I love them, I was just thinking before I read that, that I love the way those plain Jane whitewalls look. Sometimes the after market tires cheapen the look of cars. Granted, they must be horrible in the handling dept., but the look is great. imho of course.
Thanks Everybody! I am looking forward to bringing it up to Quaker for the show. An overcenter spring as I understand it is to make the clutch easier to hold down, like at an intersection. So it helps @ the bottom of clutch travel. You should see the way this is set up under the dash, it is pretty strange. Hard to describe, and not intuitive. Maybe I could scan the image in the manual, but even looking at it (for hours) I did not think it made sense! 3/4ths of the clutch pedal "feel" is against the clutch springs, then during the last 1/4 the overcenterspring acts against the clutch springs so its easier to hold down the pedal. Cheers,
1965 all over again! Ted, How are you? That red beast is BEE-UTE-IBLE! I have just got to pay you a visit sometime. We'll wait until all this salt is gone though.ou:
all GS owners need to look at ted nagels pictures above this post and you will realize that it is the love of the car and it's project and when you start a restoration of this magnatude either on your own or with your restorer do the research and be patient and be prepaired for surpises and set backs and most of all the end result is very rewarding. you can do one and half a body cars in comparison. ted your project's are absolutly "A-ONE"
