George, I picked up a steering wheel exactly like that this past summer - what did you have to do to get it to work with the stock column, and what horn button is on it? Looks great! Mark
Mark,no modifications on the wheel to hub,it fit right on,i just had to get the sport wheel horn contact, the horn button is a Buick from i believe 65-68. Thanks
Special Wagon Here is my 455 powered "Wag-gone" I really need to install my Posi! 455 has a mild build up, the usual TA stuff, Stage 1 job on the heads, Greg Gessler ported exhaust manifolds, 2.5" exhaust.
Mark just a thing i left out,the horn cap was used on the sportwheel for thos years i mentioned. That is an excellent looking wagon, wow that is so cool.:TU: Thanks
Speaking of "how it began"... here's my 66 Skylark as it looks now.. right at the beginning-- I just bought it about a month ago. I sure hope it looks better than this at the same time next year. Just finished gutting the interior-- working on getting a new right front floor pan, carpet, headliner, dash pad, etc. Right now I'm trying to budget and make some plans for the engine and body. I'm sure it'll be a while before it looks as nice as the others up here! Especially because I don't know what the heck I'm doing (that's why I read these forums!)
Ethan, Great car, great potential! Mine, at the top of this page, looked worse than yours a few years ago. Yours could not possibly have rust-out in more areas than mine had. Go to car shows, get specialty vendor catalogs, visit not only Buick, but also Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass websites, as those "sister" cars have much in common. If I told you how much money I have spent on restoring mine, you would sell yours....but, that's not really important, as there are much less expensive ways to do everything. What's most important is that you enjoy spending your time and money on the car. Post more pictures as you make progress.
Thanks! Actually, the car has next to no rust at all! I guess it pays to live in Cally. The only rust I could find is a little around the rear window (you know how water likes to pool up there) and the right front floor pan (looks like the car had a bad heater core at one point). Other than that, it has a ton of little dings and dents, but nothing really all that major. Will do! I hope others will post their progress on the site as well... hopefully that will give me some ideas. It would be cool if there was a place on this site to post digital photos of Buick specific projects-- kind of like a user HOW TO section. I really dig the photo-based how to projects that I've seen scattered across the net.
You did say Pre-68 ? The slowest Buick in my fleet. A 1932 Model 57. Kick butt straight 8 with 3 speed on the floor. Due for a frame off in 2003-04. Will probably switch to steel wheels for highway use. Clyde Barrows
I'm trying to submit a pic of my '66 Skylark GS thin pillar coupe. I have owned it since 1994. Added a dual quad setup to the 401 nailhead and put a 3:36 posi in it several years back. Was repainted in mid 1999. Hope the attachment works. Steve
George & Chris, Thanks! Chris, the color is as close to the original burgundy mist as I could find - it's called Bordeaux Red Pearl which I saw on the '99 Buicks. Also Chris, I see you're in Austin; if we Texans get the Seguin meet going, maybe we'll get to meet up..... Steve
Hey, Absolutely!!!! If we do the Seguin meeting, I'll be there with the GS350 for sure. It has a couple pretty good size dents from the original owner, but it is somewhat presentable. I'm definately looking forward to seeing all of these buicks, and getting to meet some of the people I talk to on here all of the time! Very nice car steve.
That 65 you almost forgot. George, the way that 67 looks, you prolly hurt your brain/memory just touching the gas pedal. lol. I have a 65 that looks alot like the other one in your pic. Do you have more pics of the 65? Is it the Sedan? (pillars) Mine is white with a red roof and red interior. Very clean, and on it's way to be even better. It has chrome rails around the roof that I always get asked about and I'm not too sure what the deal is with that. What tire sizes? Did you go 15x7 all around on the rims? Mine is still stock 14's w original spinner caps but that's ther next thing to go. Looking at maybe going with 15x7 Buick Rally's. I'd love to see what you've done to it. Maybe steal some ideas from ya. Mine is still very stock 300cid 4bbl w/ST 300 but I want to get the scoop on how to un-stock it the right way. Don't need a racing set up but, peeling some rubber and waking the neibors does sound like a must. You can read my Buick's story "Hapiness is a 65 worth fixing" in the newbie welcome wagon or in the "post your car's life story" thread. I going to post this e-mail aswell, maybe some others will chime in with ideas. Thanks, Nick in L.A. (NYC transplant) lots of family there.
