Her not sounding good can just be the stress of being in the hospital and being in a crowded ER instead of a private room.. You never really get rest in a Hospital as it is even if you have a room.

Sister just called with the results of the Echocardiogram and Mom has “heart failure” but they can help control that with medications & oxygen as needed.

I REALLY don’t like that term “heart failure”( hit me like a train) but been assured it’s not as final as it sounds and I have to be realistic that at 98 years old how long can we expect a heart to last?

I don’t like that line of thinking either but am not oblivious to the fact of how blessed we are to still even have her here with us.
That doesn’t stop me from loving her and worrying though.
We are going to ease Mom through the process when they release her of taking her back to her house (going to install a monitor so I can watch her during the night)where I will stay 24/7 until we can ease her into moving down to Georgia with my sister, she has a very nice home but it’s going to kill me she is not just down the road but our 1890 farmhouse doesn’t have room,”heat” barely works if you wear a coat and it would just stress Mom out that we live in these conditions.
Somehow going to have to secure a dependable vehicle that can make the trips back & forth from Georgia because I am NOT missing whatever time we have with her.
Sorry to be such a bummer, just heard all this and I can’t even go see her today (One visitor only & no switching out).
I have a lot of dear friends on here, just kicking myself for following a car dream over spending that sporadic money on cars rather than making this farmhouse more “Mom friendly”.
Anyhow, gotta go let my sisters dog out and process all this:(

Thank you again for your prayers.

    John

Yes Sir! Thank you for that encouragement! I have to say that “failure” word in the diagnosis initially shocked me but as I read more and folks share I understand more that it and of course the Covid can be treated.
Not releasing her today (good because she is very weak still) either but I got all the equipment set up nicely at her house & sister is with her.

Here is her 12/23 birthday at sisters : )
First time she has been in the hospital since she gave birth to me in 1963!

Well, your mom looks fantastic in that picture at 98! - We should all aspire to have her fantastic health at that age (heck we should aspire to get to that age). I truly hope she makes a speedy recovery. My father-in-law has had some rough times in recent weeks so sadly I understand how hard it is to be kept out of the hospital -- very rough on her, you, and your family. It creates even more uncertainty and angst.... sorry.
On the bright side, if she's made it this far, I think she still has a few more good years left to keep asking you, "Johnnie, why do you keep all that car junk??" :) :)

Hey folks! Great news! Mom is getting released from the hospital today!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes and prayers!

I already have her medical equipment set up at her house and we will be with her 24/7 till we decide on the ultimate course of action.

Doubt I would look this good at 98 after being in the hospital since Tuesday!

Oh, WOW. Thank you for the good news!

IMPORTANT NOTE from a caregiver with LOTS of experience:

Take good care of yourself, also. You can't do a good job if you're not good, too.

Well, under a lot of stress from the results of this week and the questions of what will be.
My sister & I have been taking care of Mom 24/7 . All she wants to do is sleep, she’s been very confused on the most simple things (how to sit on a toilet seat, taking the blood oxygen monitor that goes on her finger and trying to put it in her mouth etc etc etc).
Hopefully some of the fog will lift as she fights through the Covid but she definitely will need to see a Neurologist.
Since she has never needed a Doctor she doesn’t have a primary Doctor & my sister needs to get back to Georgia for work & plans on taking Mom with her since she has been trying to get her to go down there to live for years.
Mom didn’t want to leave her independence or my brother & me so she stayed here.
Now my brother is dead (October 2020) and today my sister “guessed” Mom won’t make it through this year & has looked into putting her into assisted living, which is crushing for me after what I have seen at those places doing missions work back in the day.
They will be gone and here I will be…………….:(
Going to bed, thank you for continued prayers.
