first off thanx for the help ...i just purchased a 68 electra 225 vert...i love it...but when the top is being raised you can hear the motors/pumps working but it doest have enough juice on its own to raise or lower roof...previous owner said it used to (last year) be able to lower on its own just not raise it...before i dive into this any pointers ideas or hints you can throw my way would be great....
    cheers

It is likely low on fluid. The motor has a plastic cover over the filler hole. From memory it is on the left side. You can buy a large syringe to use to refill it. Look for evidence of a leak. As you know it is located behind the rear seat.

Could also be bad lift cylinders. Mine was full of fluid and completely bled, just the cylinders were bad, resulting in the same symptoms. I believe George has stated that the cylinders are rebuildable. See his site www.buickperformance.com

No sir do NOT put brake fluid in there. Use Dextron automatic transmission fluid which replaced type A which I think was the original factory spec fluid.
