http://www.racingjunk.com/post/1041999/1971-buick-GSX-455.html I know nothing about this car just saw the add. Mark
Bitter sweet mist What color is this ? I am not Picturing this color. Is this a real GSX does any one no.
Has anyone asked for a body number yet, or the info from the firewall ID plate? Duane PS. It's interesting how he figured out the numbers of engine combinations that were built.
I did get a few pics before his email went down. Looks like the entire rear window area is rusted out pretty bad.
That puts it in the right ballpark. That number is only a few digits off from mine and the car was built in Flint.
The dash emblem looks original and the trunk is staying open meaning the springs that are beefier to compensate for the weight of the spoiler appear to be in place. What's the build date? Do you know?
Sounds like a good find for some that wants a 71 GSX for $20,000 and put a nother $30,000 or better you my have a Number 1 Car and have $50,000 to $70,000 in it. These car where once good Priced for average people. Now everyone Blowes up Prices on Cars. That dam Barret Jackson with all the Rich People around Try to out Bid each other has made this car over Priced. Frank looks like a Very Nice GS Conv in the Picture. Do you have any Larger Detail Pictures of It.
I'm a little confused by the protecto plate info. 6262 = Bittersweet mist paint TO = engine code but TO is a 350-2 BS = Trans code (400 THM) for a GS 455 non-stage 1 I thought TR was the engine code for a base 455 GS engine? I have seen other protecto plates with errors, I wonder if this is another one? Even if the car was a 350 it would not have been a TO since that was a 2 barrel carb engine. Is 1SB the rearend code? I don't have anything to decode those for a '71 Also does 12 4 8 mean PB, AC, AM radio, PS ? I bet it is an original GSX but I'm not sure I'm willing to bet $20k.

Well, I'm not sure date codes were put on the GSX specific parts. The reason I asked when the car was built as it has such a low body number it was either built right at the beginning of production, or as would be more likely, follows the pattern of other '71 GSX cars with low numbers. For example my car was built the 4th week of January, but the body number is 000642 (exactly ten higher than the subject car). With regard to the protectoplate, mine also decodes as a 350-2 barrel with single exhaust and an open rear, if I recall correctly, even though it's anumbers match 455-4 dual exhaust car. Don't pay too much attention to the protectoplate info. It would be nice to know if the build sheet is over the gas tank with the WA5 code. As the body number is so close to my car, they could very well have been made the same day! Who knows? (Maybe that car has MY buildsheet) ray:
