I don't think I have quite that much into my set up. My trans is a solid used M20 for $600, clutch kit was $300, drive shaft shortened and rebuilt for 100$, The bellhousing and flywheel cost me about $200, the linkage and pedals cost me another $200. Oh yeah, shifter and linkage right over $200

Stick with a good used unit, I found an 1971 M20 for $600 and the internals look really good. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, you can find great deals on used Muncies. For my '62 I'm going with a M22 based Muncie from Autogear for under 2K. It has more strength than a stock M22 but has the low first gear like an M20. I figure I could use all the strength I can afford for a 4000lb car with probably 550 ft lbs of torque. I plan on running cheater slicks and running it pretty hard.

I was just today, reading an article in Chevelles magazine (it's put out by "Super Chevy") about changing from a powerglide to a 4-speed in a 65 Malibu. It's written by Chuck Hanson (from "Horsepower TV"). It's very informative and lists the parts needed.

I know its about Chevelles, but the platforms are the same__GM A-Bodies!! :Do No:

It's on the news-stand now. :TU:
