    tim,
i think the s-10s fit? but you really have to go to the h-body or monza sites. those guys can really help you with stuff like that. i find a lot of info there for ours.

Either the S-10 or Camaro/Firebird with 7.5" or 7.625" would work. You should have the 7.5" ring gear. It's my understanding, that the 7.625" center section can be used in the 7.5" housing(you'll need all the goodies to go with it).

Mid to late 80's Monte SS would also have a 7.5" posi unit.

then you have make sure you have the right axle length and spline, which means you are switching to a 5 lug pattern, which means you have to machine the inside drum edge. but its a piece of cake when you have all the right parts. btw, they also make a setup for s10 spindles for 5 lug. cheap kit.

    Tim,

You'll need to get the '82-'88 S-10 truck (not blazer) rear end. Pull the axles and check the gear ratio (3.42 Std, 3.73 & 4.11 optional) These axles are 26 spline and will slip into your carrier w/o a problem. If the length is not exact, place a "wheel spacer" on the axles face, then place the drum over it. No machining nessary.

Posi can be sourced from an S-series Blazer. Most had the G80 option, you'll want the gears as well if the ratio is right. Again, this must be the early model '83-'88. They had a narrower width and will not work as a replacement for the H-body cars.

You can reuse the brake backing plates and brakes, get the drums from the S-10, or go aluminum by getting G-body parts.

This swap took me about 2 hours, including cleaning the housing. If you switch the gears, a special crush collar will be needed. The H-body site and V8Monza.com both have all details on the swap and what will be needed, including part numbers. Look in the FAO section.

    apollo,
if you have the 7 1/2 rear in there, i think they are different from the s10. also mine is a 77 and i put in a camaro rear in it. wouldnt you know, early vs later apollo/skylark are different spring perch widths. cut and reweld.

    Craig,

The s-10 gears are going to cause additional headaches. The standard gear is 3.42, with 3.73 & 4.11 being optional. The G80 posi is common to F-bodies and S-series Blazer/Jimmy. The Apollo is going to be a little nose heavy with a big block in it. If you use 396 Nova front springs it should help with the hook-up off the line by moving the weight rearward.
