Yes, it will go right in to your `68 Skylark/GS. 3.36 is a nice all around gear, too.

The limited slip or "posi" feature is what mostly improves the traction, now you have two tires putting the power to the ground. With the gears, the higher the number the more advantage the gear provides. Essentially forcing the engine to rpm quicker. I.E. get to peak power quicker get to the next gear quicker = accelerate quicker. The relationship between traction and gearing is one thing you strive for in performance. For instance if you have a 2.56 gear (less performance) and you raced in the 1/4 mile you might get a 2.2 second 60' (how quickly the car accelerated from a dead stop). If you still have enough traction with the 3.36 gear, your 60' might drop to say 1.8 seconds giving you an instant .4 second quicker pass, and because of the engine now going through the gears quicker and the car just starting out faster, the overall drop in ET will probably be even better than the .4 gained at the starting line. On the other hand, if it is too much gear for your traction then you could just spin at the line and your 60' would get worse, maybe a 2.5 for example and the car won't be quicker out of the hole, but could recover and might still be faster because of the improved acceleration. This was just a hypethetical example. There are many dimensions when doing performance upgrades. The only downfall of the 3.36 is going on the highway the engine RPM will be higher and will consume more petrol. Other than that, the gear is nice for street performance. If you decide to make the change, the next thing that you will need to do is change the speedometer gears in the transmission, they are calibrated to your current gear ratio and will give an incorrect reading with the new gear ratio.
