Looking for a good used posi carrier (3 series) to go into my '71 8.5 rearend. preferably one that doesn't need new clutch plates. Bad bearings are OK since I'll replace those anyways. Thank you,
Todd, I have a posi carrier I bought off a board member here a year or two ago. Was going to put it in my '67, but could'nt find anyone around here to do the work. I was told it came out of a '71 GTO. It still has a ring gear on it, and I believe its a 3:42 ratio. I cant speak to the condition from experience, but was told it was tight. I paid $125 for it, so thats what I'd let it go for. If youre interested, I'll try to see who I bought it from. Thanks, Rob
Sounds good. Is the part number cast into the end of the carrier 410408N? If so I'll take it. Also just out of curiosity do you have the pinion gear for it as well? Thank you
8.5"s are easy to find posi's for. Go to virtually any salvage yard and track down a trans am. Gearge has a great article on the buickperformance site about this.
The yards around here have very little posi's available. I've been looking through them for over a year and to date have found only one 2 series posi with a broken cross shaft bolt and they still want $100 for it. I have printed all the info George has posted about looking for posi's and take that with me. Thank you for the tip all the same. Cheers,
