Has anyone tried this kit for repairing cracks and splits in the Bakelite...We are a POR 15 dist and I talked to the Rep and he said it works great. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it or is it all smoke and mirrors.. I bought a kit and am going to try it myself. http://www.por15.com/STEERING-WHEEL-REPAIR-KIT/productinfo/SWRK/
I love por-15 other products, so I would guess it work at least ok. If the wheel is in tough shape you have nothing to loose. Except the cost of the kit
I tried it a few years back, worked good initially and then it just cracked again where the putty meets the plastic. The cracks were smaller than the original splits but they were still cracks. I tried this on 3 different simulated wood grain wheels. Maybe I did something wrongo No:
I'm using the Eastwood Kit right now. It's not hard just time consuming. Fill and Sand, Fill and Sand
I was using the Eastwood kit also, not the POR15 kit. I still think I may have done something wrong and that is why it cracked soon after drying.
I've used the POR15 Steering Wheel Repair Kit and I think it's crap. In my opinion, they should stop selling it as a repair kit. The problem is that plastic is highly elastic compared to POR15. The cracks will open up like the Grand Canyon when it's cold and almost disappear on a hot day. Jeff ~
