OK i have a 62 Skylark that I'm finally working on. I'm back halfing the car and will make it full frame car. 2x3 square tube with a 6-8 point cage. I do have a nice modern front suspension with a rack and point and coil overs under it now.
I got the silly idea of going gasser. Car will be street stripe hell raise around town kind of car.

That's true. Pro of gasser I can remove the inner fender wheels (they are structure in its stock form). So headers or a 455 would fit.

I didn't vote because I really couldn't decide if I were to start from scratch. I bought mine with the frame and a lot of the car already finished. I did cut out most of the cage and rebuilt it. Beefed up the 2x3 frame where needed. Reconfigured the dash, updated the engine compartment, updated the front and rear suspension, coil overs front and rear, new 9" rear end, driveshaft. Short block is ready and waiting for some parts. Plan is to bring it to BG in '25. 20240714_125115 mod.jpg 20240714_152912.jpg

I like the gasser look and think it would look great with that body style, but the question I have is how would it ride.

If you were doing the straight front axle would it ride like a buckboard?

This one has been around a while on V8 Buick, and maybe a few different members. I always thought it was cool. I keep thinking I'd like to (if I had the time and $) have a 62 post, like my convert, built up to run on the salt flats yet be streetable and a fun bracket car.

Gasser, I've always wanted to do that exact project. A 61/62 Special as a gasser with a dual quad 455. I even had a car to build, but sold it to a buddy who's now doing the project, lol.
    Thanks

For sure straight axle gasser style. Those cars are bad ass that way. I would build one that way if I had a chance. Super cool. Just like this.

If you go the route of doing a gasser I would do a a Nailhead instead of a 455. Keep it old school.

Dave before you go Gassah go for a ride in one, preferably as the driver. Do some slow and bumpy town travel, city if possible, and most certainly highway. Biggest point drive one where you plan to drive. They can be a lot of money to have a finished product that you don't like feel of. Narrow gasser's are more of an issue than a wide one obviously. I have built a few.
I like the wide tub rear, everything under and close to factory ride height. Rack front with modern suspension all around. This body will draw attention regardless of direction. I like a car to do what I tell it to and not give me an argument;).
As for the power I say blown Nailhead I'm a little set in my ways:D

Thank you guys. I plan to dive back in the car in a few weeks. I'm actually quitting my part time job in part to work on the car. I'm a retired teacher. The chassis advisor needs to take another look at it before i decide what to do.
