i read that top and bottom compression rings should be 180 degrees aligned with the wrist pin, same with the oiling ring(execpt the expansion ring) has anyone different information? if so can you sight a web address please? i read this on http://www.advanceautoparts.com/english/youcan/html/res/res20021201rp.html
I make sure never to line up any ring gaps . The oil control rings would be 90 degrees from the 2 compression rings .
ring gaps There should be a diagram in the new ring set that shows the proper line up. but what has already been said is going to be pretty close to that diagram.
Like John said never line up the gaps. Put them at least 90 degress apart (top ring gap on the "top", the second at the "bottom", top oil ring gap forward, and the bottom oil ring gap at the rear).
thanks the reason i ask is because my rings did not come with any diagrams on gap position or proper gap.
In my 40 years of engine building I like to put the top two rings 180 degrees apart and 90 degrees from the pin . On the oil rings put the ends 90 degrees from top rings .
