Well, my old ring compressor, steel band with ratchet mechanism, finally got the best of me and I smashed it! Always gave me problems with piston installation. Found out a new tool that is much easier to use and makes the job simple. What a difference the proper tool makes! The rage:af:  I use my old one because my grandpa used it before me. I'll admit it is sometimes cumbersome.
George.. If you really want to go to heaven, pick up a tapered sleeve compressor, 4.350 bore... Jeg's and Summit have them.. ARP makes them, along with other folks. That's for a .038 over 455, but it also works with the .030 stuff. Once you use that, you will never want to use anything else.. I have the tool you have listed, and use it for odd size stuff (4.360 bore race motors and .060 over 350's ect) and it works well, but nothing like that tapered ring does. JW
Hi Guys, George....I agree with Jim! I have a 4.3425"(.030), a 4.350" and a 4.375" and I love 'em all! Hey...I had forgotten I had this till I just seen and read this thread but I also have a spare adjustable one that is brand new, in-the-box from Speedway and will fit bores from 4.250" (Hemi and BBC) up to 4.340" just .0025" (two and one half thousandths) shy of a .030 over 455. I just tried a .030" piston I have here and it will work just fine. I had my others (listed above) first but bought this one for a BBC (4.280", .030" over 454) I was going to do for a friend a few years back but that ended up not happening. I'd like to get the $25 I paid for it plus shipping which I'm sure wouldn't be more than a few bucks. Here's a pic if you or anyone else is interested...
