Pertronix interface with tachometers

I've decided to try out a Pertronix III conversion to compare performance with the Lectric limited conversion that's in the motor right now. I'd like the hotter spark and the rev limiter feature.

So, I'm hearing from some folks that there may be a problem triggering some aftermarket tachometers with this "multi-spark" conversion. Pertronix says a possible fix is to install a 10-20k ohm resistor in the line between the coil and the tach. My tach supplier, SpeedHut, says they have a "tach buffer" circuit they can supply if triggering is a problem with certain points conversions.

So, have any of you that are using the Pertronix III in particular had any issues triggering aftermarket tachs? If so, how did you resolve it? Thanks for any feedback.

I'm running the Pertronix III under a stock distributor with their recommended coil and an Auto Meter 3708 tach. No issues. The Pertronix unit went in in 2021 and the tach in 2023.

I ran a Pertronix III in my Olds, both stock tach, the Sun tach worked no issue. you need full 12 volts to the Pertronix FYI......im sure you already know that.

I have a Pertronix III and a cheap aftermarket tach, no issues with mine.
