Can anyone tell me how again which wires go to what on the pertronix?
I have two wires that come out of the distributor. One is red, which should go to the +, and the other is black, which should go to the "-" on the coil.
Do I also hook the pink power wire (from the wiring harness) to the coil?

Was going to start the car today with the pertronix unit, since my MSD ignition is in the shop. Does anybody know? Appreciate your help.
    Thank you,

Yes, the pink wire will go to the positive lead of the coil,
be sure your coil has an internal resistance of at least 1.5 ohms , the pertronix box will say this also, it's no joke if your coil is 1.3 ohms your engine will run like $hit. Accel super coils (about $30) work great. Also be sure to use the plastic gauge to set the air gap. I've used pertronix for about 5 years now on two different cars, I love them.
    good luck

Thanks for your help guys. I put in the stock coil, and it didn't run worth a beans. The engine was just a sputtering. I found the pertronix blaster coil, put it in, and now it works great!!!
I can't wait to get my msd back, but for now... the pertronix will work great.

    Rick,

Glad to hear it's running well. Did you do the voltage checks like it says on the website? I'm just curious.

Also, periodically pull the coil to cap wire out of the coil and look down inside.

I had a problem with it overheating my first oil-filled coil. This would show up as oil leaking into the coil tower.

...just some things to look out for.

I was also running the factory resistance wiring (I know you know ALL about how that looked!), and I thought you were running 12v full through yours when you rewired?

I had a simillar issue with a pertronix unit, I have since switched back to points. My coil ohmed out at 1.46 Do you really think that .04 ohm could make the difference?

    Phil,
I have no idea that it would make that much of a difference, but after I put the MSD back in, it ran even that much better.

Which pertronix unit do you have? I have heard there was a change in them.

I've been running the old style Pertronix and an Accel super stock coil for 5 years now with no trouble. It was important to confirm coil resistance first. With such a low reading you guys will have to use a digital ohm meter. Analog meters don't have the sensitivity. Even with a digital meter a certain amount of resistance may show up in the test leads themselves.

So BadBrad, what does the Accel Super Coil ohm out at?
Which model are you refering to? The yellow canister type or the big yellow plastic one?

Chrome canister. It's been so long now I don't recall the resistance. Worse yet, my neighbor and his digital multimeter have since moved.
