Part Swap?

Discussion in 'Buick FAQ' started by Drache, Feb 1, 2003.

I was wondering what parts are interchangable between the 68/69 skylarks. I've trying to restore a '68 and I want to get a '69 parts car but I want to know what parts are interchangable.

    Restoring:
    1968 Buick skylark, 2dr, 350 2-bbl

    Parts Car:
    1969 Buick Skylark, 4dr, 350 2-bbl

Did you ever get any answers to this one? Nearly everything in the suspension, front-end, brakes, engine bolt-ons, etc. Should swap directly with no issues. Are there any parts in particular you are looking to swap that I haven't covered here? I have a Hollander Interchange Manual (the used by wrecking yards) to help you with the parts that you would be looking at.
There are many body styles from that year that share parts with your car. For instance, the front brakes on my 67 GS400 came from a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo! Everything from the power booster, master cylinder, spindles, pads, pretty much every thing was a bolt in swap. The only parts that were not interchangeable were the brake hose brackets that locate the hose/hard line connection. I just modified my stockers and now it works pretty slick!

  3. 68 and 69 are basically interchangeable, BUT you eliminate a lot of parts when you try to use a 4 door model to donate parts to a 2 door car. Your question would be much easier to answer if you listed the specific items your 2dr car needs. And a lot of 69 parts that will physically interchange, are not "correct" on a 68, if you are concerned with the 68 being correct.
