Paced an '88 Porsche 944 or an older 928? Coupe with my '66 300 2bbl

This happened about 8 years ago. I'm finally getting around to posting it.
I was driving home from work late and the traffic was very light (about midnight).
I was driving from the Naval shipyard to Gorst (I'm mentioning the location mostly for Chris (cjp69) and Al (bb455))
It is a very tight windy road with a barrier on the inside land (two lanes) and a cliff face on the outside lane.
I was driving my daily driver a '67 Special with a '66 300 2bbl, dual exhaust, a slightly improved cam and a 3.08 open rear.
I also had upgraded the suspension with the K.O. kit. The '77 firebird spindles, disc brakes, 1 1/4 inch sway bar in front, 7/8 sway bar in back, Gas-a-just shocks all around, polygraphite bushings in the front, new rubber in back.
This car handled like an IROC; very tight.

So this porsche (not sure if it was a 944 or what) comes up on my right side, slows down a bit, looks at my car and I can almost hear him thinking that I wasn't worth the gas to race and he starts pulling away again resuming his previous speed.
I didn't appreciate his low opinion of my Buick even if the front end was primered and not very clean. So I stepped on the gas and kept him right next to me; not letting him get past. So he steps on it and you can guess the rest.

We were neck and neck the entire length of this highway until we came to the railroad crossing in that little town of Gorst and both slowed down. I knew he expected me to wallow through the corners and get left way behind but I was flat and even with him all the way.
After we slowed he looked over at me again with the look of absolute and total surprise on his face. He was shocked and pointed to my car and gave a thumbs up and then looked at my car again to see what it was and gave another thumbs up. I gave him a thumbs up as well and we parted ways. We were driving that stretch of road in excess of 100 mph which is something I thougth I would never be able to do in my little 'ol Special with a tired 300 and a weazing 2bbl...
cjp69 and bb455 will appreciate this, that knowing that road.

I wasn't what type it was. I don't know the porsches very well. It could have been a 928 or something like it. It was more about the handling around the tight curves then anything else that was remarkable.

    Cheers,

    A 944 Turbo or a 928 will pull like a SOB in 4th & 5th gear.

    Yea they will.

944 turbo kicks you in the ass at 3000 rpm.

    I did 145 mph in a 5 sp 928 once. ...baddest ride I've ever driven, I believe.

A regular 944 handles, but isn't quick by todays standards. (I once chose to keep my Dodge Omni GLH over purchasing a used 944... of course, the GLH was like a go-cart and I liked that)

Almost doesn't matter what his car was, you went for it and that's all that counts! Bravo!
