While not common, I certainly have seen more that a couple blocks that have very deep stampings. Just like everything built on a production line, the stamps varied a lot. Lots of double hits, partial stamps, real light stamps.. not to mention mis-stamps. I have taken Original engines out of 1 Owner cars, and had the VIN not match the car... so not much surprises me anymore..

I understand they look "too perfect" but take it from a guy who has seen hundreds of block stamps.. those did not flag as unusual or suspicious to me, when I first viewed them.

That's a very nice car James.. wonderful work. Be interesting to see what it brings, it should be the benchmark for HT 4 speed GS Stage 1 cars.

    Beautiful Car!

For what its worth, the engine stampings on my GS are on the wrong side of the engine (passenger side), they are very light and match the vin.

Has anyone ever seen the vin between # 5 and 7 and the SF between # 1 and 3? Placed in switched positions.

See Fritzee, we can't have you making observations and questioning things, that is against the rules, unless you want to be attacked and put in your proper place for all to see. You are supposed to be clairvoyant and know that it used to be a member's car!

Fritzenshiftin was just doing what he thought was best, and we should all understand that questions like this come up from time to time. I also understand why James took it personally....he poured a mountain of blood, sweat, and $ into that car to bring it to that level.

So then the question is….is it POSSIBLE, yes…..is it PROBABLE, no.

So what you are saying is that it’s ok for Fritz to question my integrity, but not ok for me to question his knowledge?

He may not have known who built the car, but dozens of other board members do. Most importantly, anyone interested in purchasing the car may have doubts after reading comments like his, which would intern hurt the seller who is not on here to defend the comments.

James, I was not questioning anyones integrity as I did not know who owned it.
I asked an honest question on our forum, complimented the car, withdrew previous questions when confronted only to find the personal attacks on me and my families name not wavering.
I did not make this personal it was a question.
A car this nice should defend itself and I have apologized enough.

James, he had no idea it was your car!!! Since when are folks not allowed to question something? He removed his comments about the stamping as soon as he found out, so it won't affect the seller whatsoever, yet your post openly insulting him still stands. Geez. You are acting like it was a targeted attack on you when it was nothing of the sort.

I have no problem with you clarifying/verifying something, but there was no need for insult.

Fritz and James have squashed this.

There's no need for the sidelines to keep picking at the scab. Let's move on and see how the auction plays out.

    Thanks.

what's with the machined surface & the deeper "matching vin" Hmmmmmmm

That was what he said and then deleted. Yes Fritz, you can now say you were only asking a question since it ended with a ?, but the way I read it it was more of a statement regarding the authenticity of the numbers matching block, especially after stating the surfaced had been machined. You didn't ask if it had been machined, you asked what's with it and the deeper "matching vin". Big difference, especially using the quotations you used with "matching vin" that indicate to me that you think the block has been re-stamped to match the VIN on the car and was not the original block. The "Hmmmmmmm" wasn't a question, or was it?

BTW, I never asked for or an apology. I never called out your family name either. I simply stated my opinion, just like you simply asked a question...

If only this thread hadn't gone sideways.

I've seen enough. Someone interested in the auction can start another thread. This one is done.
