    Hey yall,

Off topic here but I figured this is a good place to get an answer. I have today found a car in a barn. NO REALLY I did, just a couple hours ago, lol( about 15 minutes after we hung up the phone MG). But I have no idea what it may be worth. Best description I can give is:

1966/7(dang I can't remember which one now,i am 80% sure its a 66) Olds 442, Convertable, Bench seat, Auto. I talked to the guy for just a little bit and all he said was he had 6 factory chrome wheels(?) that went with the car. It is 100% complete and not missing anything. It has set long enough that the top is bad, and the interior, while all there, needs replaced. He said it ran when he parked it, and it was parked because it "messed up the wifes hair". The grille is gorgeous(I looked really close), and all the trim seems to be there. It's white with a black top and black interior. Didn't see any other options as I was "looking fast" so as not to show a lot of interest :Brow: .

If possible I would like a rough estimate of what it may be worth. I am a Buick guy first, but this is just too kool a car to let go. I don't want to piss the guy off with a lowball jerkoff offer either. I will get a good deal I am sure once the haggling starts, lol. And if this deal goes I will walk up with cash. I can't believe that I actually found and old guy that admitted " I won't ever have time to do anything with it". :eek2: . He was very honest and I agreed that the car should be "done right" when its done. I think that may have helped me in his eyes. At least I hope it did.

    PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Help guys.

    Thanks in advance.

Those 66/67 GM A-bodies aren't worth their weight in scrap, especially big block convertibles. Jeeze, the only thing that would make it worse is if it had one of those pain in the butt stick shift trannys in it.
You should probably just give me the guys contact info and let me take care of it for you. :gt:

A 66 442 is worth a little more than a 67. Check the rockets in the front fenders. Hard to give estimate on value without more info but I would get the car if it is solid. Sold one with a 4 speed for 40k plus 2 months ago . Frame off car. John

Just throw a # at him to see what interests him. I'd start around $3500 and go up from there. I just found a '70 442 BB convert. here complete but needs everything and I mean everything. The guy said he'd part with it for $5000. It all boils down to how bad do you want it.

    John:

Just got a call from a friend in Jacksonville, Florida that just bought a 69 Hurst and needs to sell a coupla of his 442's to finance it. The cars are really nice, but need some assembly. I believe they're listed on 442.com. One is a 4 speed tripower 66 HT with A/C, and the other is a 67 4 speed convertible with a ton of NOS parts for it.

Barn cars are all over the map in value. They're usually a lot nicer when they go in than when they come out due to mouse and bird droppings. Also if it's not a good tight barn, they can sweat and do all kinds of internal damage. Look it over close.

Good paint jobs cost $5k on up, so be careful how much you spend up front. If it's only a Cutlass, it's only worth half of the 442 value.

Thanks for the replies guys I appreciate it. I have to say though, that this car would be an investment deal for me. I really believe that I will be able to "buy it right" if yall know what I mean, lol. Just like everyone else out there, I wanna find that "rare" car to save, and put a little coin in my pocket :Brow: . When I get ready to do a nice show car type deal, I have a 9000 original mile 67' GS 400 sitting in one of my storage garages waiting for me. That is what I am working towards. When I am done racing(yea right) I will have the 67' to have fun in. Anyways........

I am gonna work this deal and see where it may lead. It seems that whenever I find a deal like this the seller changes his mind on me. I hope not, but this guy is no idiot. He had a super straight 67' 326 tempest sitting there too. SUPER straight and begging to be a racecar. A 67' Olds big car convertible, had a changed fender and said Delta on the odd fender. And a "1 of 4 "high country" Firebird/ TA from the early to mid 70's. Said he did the research through some Pontiac club and found that it was built by the factory specifically for the Pikes Peak race back in the day, and he had the papers and tags to prove it.

He knows he has some good stuff but I just don't think he "knows" how good. While I was there I bought a 68'(he said) 400" Buick engine that was stored in his shop in the corner. He said he pulled it out of a wrecked car and the mileage was in the 60's. Drove the wreck in, pulled the motor, set it on the floor. Then I come along a couple years later and buy it for $100 complete carb to pan, pulleys to flex plate. I figure a little freshening and it will work just fine in my 67' for a driver. Anyways.................

Thanks for the help and I will let yall know how it goes.

    later..................

He is correct. The only year that it had to be a 4 speed was in '64 when they came with a HO 330. In '65 they came out with the 400 in the cars and an automatic became available!
