I haven't seen this addressed yet. I put 2 1/2" exhaust on my 442 and now I need the factory "looking" tips back on it. What have you guys done? Does someone make new tips with a larger diameter?o No:
YO sells the correct chambered exhaust and tips for a 66 442 and I presume for yours too. Gardner exhaust in NY also makes exact repros.
I took my stock chrome tips and cut off the inlets till the hole was big enough for my 2.5" pipe to slide inside them. Then welded the tips onto the pipe.
Those chrome tips slide in perfect on 2 1/2" pipe, they just need a small couple of tack welds to hold on. Did that with my car, and it looks slick. What mufflers are you going with? I went with the 20" case "Hemi" dynomax super turbos. Loudest insdie the car at 45 and does not kill your ears going down the highway at 55, 65, 75, 85...!
Great mufflers I run the same 20 inch Dynoma mufflers on my car. I really like them. Not like the "Wild Woodpecker": Thrush blowouts that at least one of the most recently certified cars runs.
Thanks for the input. I have not bought new tips I only have the originals that came on the car. I just assumed that the repro tips would be too small a diameter. I guess that you only run into probs with 3" exhaust eh?
I don't know when, but Torque Tech exhaust will be coming out with 2 1/2 and 3 inch trumpet horn tips
Three inch exhaust Three-inch get a little dicey but even they can be done. The tips in the pictures are unnoticeable as modified now the pipes are black and the car is on the ground. The tips were cut away until the three inch would fit. The other way is to weld a reducer on like this 2 1/2 tail pipe. Gerry
