Is there a consensus mini starter for a Olds 400 E. It is intended for a 66 442. I assume the solenoid switch is attached just like one is attached on a stock starter.

I have a mini starter from Summit Racing on my 66 with a 455, I guess it is OK. But really everyone on Realoldspower.com seem to recommend the starters from http://www.robbmcperformance.com/products/starter_home.html as being the best.
I thought if I did replace the one I have I would buy one of them.

I've read stories (on other message boards) about mini-starters which are simply designed wrong for Olds; no matter how you "clock" them, they won't fit. And then, of course, there's the issue of fitment with headers. Certain header and starter combinations won't work.

Unfortunately, I can't give you any specifics, as I've never been in the market for a mini-starter myself. Just wanted to warn you to do more research.

I have a Powermaster on my Ramrod and a RobbMc starter on m 66. Both fit fine and work well. Both cars have 2 1/2 exhaust systems with stock manifolds.

I like the sound of the Powermaster much better.

I have a Powermaster 9610(IIRC). Been on my car for many years now without any issues. I have a Milodon oil pan and Hooker 1 7/8" headers. Starter goes in and out without any clearance issues.
