Most likely 110* That would be 4* advanced.

ok i degreed it and my centerline is 107.5, so i know iam off and but iam unure of the centerline the one guy posted above is 110 and i searched the board i found a thread that said
    Poston GS 350-114 cam, lobe center-114*, Adv duration-intake-270*, exhaust- 276*, lift intake-.480, exhaust-.485, power range 1500-5800, maximum RPM-7000,

Maybe i should just call poston tommarow to confirm.

Did you degree your cam with the motor in the car?? To what level did you have to tear the motor down?? I'm considering checking mine out as well. Poston 114 cam and things seem a little weak with the combo I'm running.

Hey got me wondering too...checked that thread on how to degree...looks a bit too deep for me! I had a guy help me with miy cam install a few years back..I had bought a degree wheel...he told me that there was only one way for this cam to go in as it was keyed ( I recall setting #1 to top dead centre)...I had purchased the cloyes that allows 0* +4* or -4*...it was left at 0*. Cam is a 110 from poston.

I have too change my oil, while the oil is out I may as well replace the gasket on the oil pump cause it's lking, well oil pressure is a bit low may as well rebuild it, going to have to remove the frt cover may as well degree my cam...and my engine has been running a little hot with all these mods, should get 3 core rad...it never ends does it!

Well i got a little creative. i took all my plugs out, took the valve cover off on the drivers side, stuck a dial indicator with a long tip down the number one plug hole to confirm tdc, then i took three bolts out of the front pulley on the crank went down to the local hardware store bought a peice of 5/16-18 rod and some 3/4 pvc and made spacers for the dregree wheel, then bolted the degree wheel on to the front of the pulley, then bent a coat hanger for a marker on tdc. then put a indicator on the 1 cyclinder intake push rod and whent threw the procedure of degreeing the cam. i did it without taking anything off the engine besides a valve cover and rocker assembly and 3 bolts off the pulley and while it was in the car. If anybody wants a pic of it setup give me your e-mail.

What were the results? Did you set it at 4 degrees advanced?

the center line is 107.5, i half to call poston but i have read the centerline for my cam is post to be 110 or 114, so i half to get a adjustable timing set, so the cam is retarded.

I don't want to sound condescending regarding your methods here, but it does sound a bit shaky here on the other side of the internet.

If you haven't already, please repeat the measurement three or four times to see what kind of reapeatability you might get.

Yes i did repeat and got the same thing, iam doing the same thing just bolted differently then have the timing cover off.

If the intake center line is 107.5*, that makes the cam 6.5* ADVANCED.

I am also planning a TA 212 cam into my 77 Regal 350 so.......

    From TA cataloges:

So i am from the Netherlands, so did I understand this correct.
Do all the stock TA timing sets are not inaccurate anymore???????
I mean, are they 4 degree of timing in the good direction comparison to the other stock timing sets??

Kinda confusing. The way I understand it is, the stock replacement timing sets have the 4 degree of advance built into them.

But how about the double row sets with the 3 key way gear? At what degrees are these 3 key ways at? Advance 4*, 0* and Retard 4*? Still need to get me one of those timing sets for my 350 build. New to this, specially to degreeing a cam. Interesting stuff though.

this is really weird. when i did my motor, i never had a problem. an i am only using a single row timing chain. like i said before straight up timing at TDC on # 1. wow. just strange he having this kind of trouble.

i guess iam not understanding, if my centerline is 107.5 and i called poston and its post to 110 dont i want to advance it to 110? so do i need to retard it or advance it??

Well could the poston s-divder intake have killed my power??? and not the cam, cause i more i learn the more i think its not the cam, could changing my centerline from 107.5 back to 110 recover anypower??

  17. 69GS350

    69GS350 Just tryn to learn!

i installed a poston intake...sure didnt hurt my power. its a solid intake. you wont lose power with it...the complaint hear is that people dont see signifigant differences...not that it slowed them down.

the other thing i noticed to was at idle to about to 2500 or so there more vibration from the engine going threw the car, its nothin huge but just a little more iam guessing it my be cause the cam is bigger?? iam running out of reasons why it lost power, the car is not fun drive anymore, this is my first buick and iam gettin kinda turned down on it. i guess i can go from square one and recheck everything?

A poston 114 has a 114* Lobe separation angle. I am sure the cam card will say to install it at an intake centerline of 110* which makes it 4* advanced. Degreeing it at 107.5* would be 6.5* advanced. This might not be a bad thing. It should give you more low end at the expense of high end power. If your intake centerline is 107.5*, that would not cause you to be down on power.

BTW, don't think that this is peculiar to Buicks. Installing a cam in any engine requires that you degree it properly. Modifying any engine away from stock sometimes has unintended consequences do to combinations of parts. It can test your patience. Sometimes, you need to walk away from it for a time.

All that means is you got lucky, or the cam went in at a setting that worked. Degreeing a cam is making sure that the measurements match the cam card. Due to tolerances and parts, sometimes it needs adjustment, sometimes not.
