from the pics it doesnt look like you have excessive wear. im not too sure but it does look ok to me. at least from the bit of fluid thats left on it i can tell you keep up on those iol changes!
That shaft is part of the timing cover....don't try to pull it out. The wear looks minimal on your pump. Mine was at least twice as bad! Maybe the gears are worn. Got a apicture of the teeth up close? Are they very loose inside the cover when they are installed?
The gears didn't look too worn but I am off to the parts store to get replacement kit with new gears anyway. Is a trust/booster plate necessary? Thanks
Get the booster plate, adjustable regulator, and oil pump shim kit from TA Performance. The booster plate will give you a new wear surface and boost pressure, the regulator will allow you to adjust the oil pressure relief spring while the motor is running, and the shim kit will let you dial in the end clearance. Looks like you have minimal wear.
THANKS! Just wanted to thank Larry and everyone who helped me with this oil pump project. Installed new gears and boosterplate, bolted back together..oil pressure doesn't go below 10 at low rpms now ...even when very hot. Didn't have to remove distributor to install gears. Car is back on the road. THANKS! Chris
%$&@#&%! I ran into a problem with my oil pump. Everything was working fine and then the oil pressure started to get low again. I started the car this morning and there was no oil pressure...after I turned off the motor it blew out the pressure relief valve...oil everywhere. I went in and changed the spring in the pressure releif valve...started car same thing...turned off...blew it out again. I am about to remove the cover again and inspect the new gears and re prime it etc....it has a booster plate installed. I also have another cover from a 455 that is in better shape. Might put that on. Any suggestions? Thanks! Chris
