I have a nice new 5/8" oilpick-up tube for my 400 to 430 rebuild. The original 1/2" tube has a flange attached to it allowing for a third mounting point to the baffle mounting bolt.
What is the conventional wisdom on attaching the 5/8" p/u? Is it stiff enough to not need the flange or do folks remove and reattach the flange to the new part?
appreciate any advice as i find this forum to be priceless!.....

It is just fine with out a third point, 71up motors didn't even have the third point.

Thank you, now, if i may have one more more silly question.....

what is the typical clearance between the p/u and the oil pan bottom?
mine seems to be ~ 1/4" with an apparently straight pan. that seems awful close to me.
although the old p/u was no shorter....

Sounds right to me, you want it close other wise oil slosh could cause you to run out of oil.
