Does everyone out there with a Buick 455 drill out the oil passages to bigger diameters or is it just for serious drag racers? Also, can all 455 blocks be drilled out to bigger diameters or are there only certain year blocks that this oil modification can be done on? How much horsepower does one have to be making to start considering to drill out the oil passages. Any insight here will be appreciated:TU:

Tony, it really doesn't matter how fast you go with your car. Any time you rebuild a Buick motor it is always a good idea to improve on the stock oiling system. The stock oiling system on a BBB is not very good. I'm not an expert on the modifications that can be done, but some of them include radiusing corners, enlargening galley holes and etc. Maybe someone can give some more advice on more oiling modifications. John :)

Just like John said, it's always a good idea to improve the oiling system for any application. That's one of the main reasons engines of yesteryears rarely made 100,000 miles. When people have heart attacks they don't just fix the damage, the doctors usually do a bypass to improve flow. That's the name of the game. Another "must do" is grooved cam bearings. It puts the oil where it needs it on the bottom of the cam instead of the top.
