What you thinkin' about Willis!!! It would be cool to see/hear the OHC buzz down the track! Maybe you could trade the 400 for a good OHC? Ohhh the possibilities.....
I like all these obscurities- like a '69 Custom S with the OHC 6 and 3-speed manual. There is a Firebird in hemmings this month too with the OHC 6. Looks nice, in Indiana. Ted
Nah... just daydreaming as usual. I did find a rotted out SOHC Bird that somebody with piles of time and money could probably bring back though. And besides, I've already got one six cylinder that doesn't get the attention she deserves!
I had a pal with a new OHC 6 Firebird-with a stick. Was I surprised to see the Qjet..and more surprised when he took me for a ride in that car=fast and the sound of that 6 as he went thru the gears-didn't sound like any American car! and handled very well-too bad that he eventually killed himself in it-
Back in the late 60s i had a 64 lark with the 300 ''optional'' enging [250 hp].... one night I tangled with one of the ohc 6 tempest and he stayed right with me.... the little 6 ran real good ,,,, i was impressed....
Ever drive or ride in a 62 Lemans with the 4 speed, 4 barrel, 4 banger? It could have been badged as a 441, (single exhaust). Fellow engineer at Olds had one he bought new. Each year, he'd drag it in from the back yard, renew the insurance an license, and get it ready for the drive from Lansing to St Clair for walleye fishing. He'd rent a float platform out just off the channel and fish all night as the freighters went by. Then drive home, right back to the spoy in the back yard for another year. Half a 389, but surprisingly quick. Not sure if they did that in other years or not. Seems to me Mickey Thompson did some fooling around with that engine. Turbo Corvairs were very impressive. There was a group in Lansing that raced one and it ran in the 11's.
