    Guys,

I am a complete dumb ass today. I took the tie rods and center link off today to replace the tie rods. Unfortunately, when I replaced the tie rods on the adjusting sleeve, I forgot which one was the outer and which was the inner once I threaded both sides into the adjusting sleeves. Any way to identify which side is the inner and which is the outer on the sleeve? Is one left hand thread and the other right hand thread?

The inners have the grease fitting on the side. The outers have the grease fitting on the back side if the rod.

If you installed the outers where the inners go, you couldnt put a grease gun on them because the grease fitting would be up against the engine cradle.

    Jason,

The grease fittings are on the bottom of the joint on both the inner and outer for these.

We're taking about an A body here correct? If so, they gave you 4 outers

67 gs400 and all 4 have the grease fitting on the bottom. I will cross check the parts.

Just cross checked the parts with the parts store and they confirm they are correct and the grease fittings are on the bottom of all 4:confused: Now, I guess I need to start over and remove the parts, return them and start from scratch so that i remember which are the outer and which are the inner.

Using four outers will not work. The outers thread into the sleeve clockwise and the inner counter clockwise. Hence the toe in/out are adjusted by rotating the sleeves..

so in that case they are correct as all 4 are in the sleeves. So now I can figure out the threading in order to determine the inner vs. outer.

The outers thread into the sleeve clockwise and the inner counter clockwise.

if they are improperly threaded, he'll never get them threaded on.

is it possible the zirk was simply relocated on the aftermarket part?

What manufacturer are the parts? Do they have the part number stamped into them? If so, this listing from Rockauto might help you identify the parts.

    Larry,

I have the 1106 and 1037. Unfortunately, I already threaded them into the sleeve before marking which was which. Stupid me! The markings are the same on both.

The trade numbers are ES 333 for the outer and ES 681 for the inner.

    Bob,

That is exactly what happened, as I cross checked the part numbers and Larry just gave me the same info from his part numbers. They are correctly threaded into the sleeve. So now I can take the info from the previous post and figure out which one threads clock and which one threads counter.

Thanks all, will let you know what I find.

Well, if you have them on properly, the studs on the tie rod ends should get father apart or closer together when you adjust the sleeve. If you have them on wrong, the sleeve will move to the left or right and the tie rods will stay in the same spot relative to one another. Clear as mud?

Also, when you tighten up the sleeves, make sure the bolts are oriented so that they are over the slot on the sleeve. Very important. I think that was even an ASE question

I believe that is the case.
The Moog ends I bought recently have the fittings opposite the stud on both the inners and outers.

Ok guys. Just checked using the clockwise vs. counter clockwise approach, I was able to determine the inner vs. outer.

Thanks to all. They are marked and will be bolted to the center link, followed by paint and followed by attaching to the spindles!

I will post the pics of the updated front suspension. I added eibach lowering springs, bilstein shocks, 4 way adjustable tubular upper control arms, howe tall upper and lower ball joints, ls1 disc brakes, monte carlo ss steering box and front sway bar from a 77 Trans Am(1.25")

That means the 455 is getting dropped in this weekend.:beers2: :beers2:

    not possible.

one end of the sleeve is threaded clockwise, the other is counter-clockwise.

either you will cross thread the tie rod end trying to put it in the wrong end of the sleeve or the sleeve will function properly. the question is if you have the tie rod ends on the correct side of the sleeve.
