With my wagon in the shop I had my mechanic replace the front rubber brake lines, I said why not and did a set of braided lines. While he was bleeding the system. He noticed that I wasn't producing enough vacuum. Yet I get 15lbs taken at the carb. Would a different cam cause the problem and difference? Being I am already looking at doing some performance work on the engine. I am looking to get a small vacuum pump from one of the new POS little suvs. I got the car from a flipper she came from CO springs. I can tell that someone did some custom work on her at sometime in her life. Custom upholstery, and exhaust mounts. Who knows what other things have been done. Tim
Yes some cams do not make so much vacuum. what was original engine? Year? 2 barrel ? What’s timing set at? Carb? Intake? Cam degreed? What cam? how old is booster and booster check valve? Idle speed? All this stuff can affect vacuum in some way.
Andy, as far as I know it is the original 350-4 all stock but a set of Hooker Headers. Rochester 4bbl. Not sure what the timing is. also probably set to factory, but I put in a different set of springs in the distributor. The booster is maybe 2 months old. Tim
If you have 15" at the carburetor, there is no reason why the vacuum at the intake fitting is not the same, unless it is clogged. 15" is plenty for power brakes. An all stock engine should make closer to 20".
I just replaced the booster not 3 months ago. I did clean out the vacuum tube and seems to be better. Tim
