I don't think they're bringing that kind of $ yet. Maybe someday but I doubt it. I could be totally wrong on both accounts too.
My dad paid $1300 for a set at Carlisle 5-6 years ago and I thought he was insane. I was wrong, per usual I might add
Back then, the going rate was about $600 ea. so he wasn't far off. In the past couple years the asking prices have skyrocketed. Maybe that it was 1 or 2 ppl that spawned it & everyone else saw them and... Idk.
The sad think about them is that those will need as much work as used ones to put them on the car.Bruno.
Yeah, people can ASK all they want. I have this conversation with folks who see a 19xx car for sale, and they think they can GET that for their car. The market speaks. I suppose if he wants to sit on these for a while, he may get is asking price, or close to it. The problem with NOS fenders is that they absolutely need to be test fit and repaired just so they fit right. Sooooo, where is a good set of originals that I can pop a patch in and be done with it?
Many of the decent "originals" that I have &/or have seen are actually "used NOS" - I have a pair that I know a little history of the car they came off of & I suspect were purchased/installed in the late '70's (NOS LH convertible quarters were still avail) so that assembly problem on the NOS happened early on. I've also noticed significant variations even in the way that originals were put together. Sometimes to the point it's hard to tell if they're orig. Did one car where no fender wanted to fit this shell back by the door. We had a pile of rusted used fenders back then & grabbed every one & damn if the biggest POS of them all dropped onto that car like it was specially made for it. Wound up using the bracing & bottom off the NOS fender (had to lengthen it a little too). Probably still split the seams anyway to fix alignment issues. After "fixing" a few sets of NOS, I'm hard pressed to think I wouldn't wind up splitting originals apart too but I've never done a car w/originals so I guess I'll find out as I have a couple sets for current projects. The flexibility in FE sheetmetal alignment when they're split apart is infinite & these cars look so good when the sheetmetal alignment is right.
Should probably add.. ours need to be corrected for the hood alignment. Now.. what is an NOS GS hood worth?
That's what I meant by "fixing" but it's more than just hood alignment. The bracket in the front where the core support attaches is often positioned wrong (I've also seen those welds break on "used NOS") which is why ppl have issues w/Headlight Bezel gaps and the seam at the top where it meets the door although they don't line up (esp. driver's side IIRC) on orig. fenders either.
Huh, There was I guy selling a 1968 NOS fender on ebay and I was considering it every thought it was stupid $. It never occurred to me that there might be a bunch of work in making it fit correctly. Glad I didn't spring for it. It did sell.
I have seen some parts selling way too high,I don't blame the seller if he gets a buyer, but lets face it,you spend 2.000.oo for a part, its installed.now its used. What is it worth now?Bruno.
The flip side is that paying for body work can be SO expensive, that if you find a part that works and saves many hours of labor, it might be cheaper...
Yes, there had to be some very early ones that were correctly assembled just like there were NOS '70 core supports of which a board member came up w/one not long ago so it's always possible there's still a correctly made NOS fender out there too.
