Loading up today for the greatest Olds meet in the country this weekend at Norwalk: The Dick Miller Oldsmobile Nationals on Sunday. Most people will be there all weekend and lots enter the local program Saturday night (local bracket racers hate these meets when these beautiful, quiet, and very fast cars come in and screw up their points race with their ear splitting noise makers).

This is a dynamite event and this topped off by two new cars facing off in a grudge match:

A 218 MPH 72 Hurst (well, kinda) with a DRCE engine vs the Hunt Brothers Alabama dragster with a new twin turbo Olds small block. Probably have to be in the mid to low 9's to qualify for the quick 8 in the door slammer shootout.

Huge swap meet, wild animal show at Laurer/Trovato's barbeque/orgy/adult beverage blowout Saturday night (did I tell you about Bill's 8.0 second 79 Starfire that's in the running for the Limited Street NSCA championship, or Dave Laurer's 74 442 L/S that also runs in the low 8's), and probably 200 other Olds powered cars running as well as a huge increase in the show and swap meets. John and James Kryta (Inline Tube) have taken over that function and will be running it on the opposite side of the track.

Few of us are going down for tomorrow night's Test and Tune (Mark Prince, Gary Rubrich, myself, others) ,then will enter the cars in the Sunday events. Last year was a rainout, but Year One put up $$$ to bring the top cars in each class to Bristol for the Bash in October. Not sure if that's going to happen this year.

Got the right valves springs back in the Ramrod and am quite anxious to see if I get back the 1000 RPM's I lost in this cam fiasco over the past 3 years. As suspected, (thanks, A.C.) it still had the break-in springs in it at Morrocco and Stanton and no top end. Fortunately I was shifting it low and didn't hurt anything.

I'll be there Sunday, too. If I had known the blow-out on Saturday included an orgy, I would've scheduled differently. :Brow:

I hope the Hunt Brothers can get the chassis for that twin-turbo dialed in. That thing has a lot of potential, but it's a tricky combination.

Speaking of small-blocks, Dave, you forgot to tell the good people here that both Trovato's and Laurer's low-8-second cars are running small-block Olds.

If you stub your toe tripping over a beer can and need a driver for your Ram Rod, just have the PA announcer page me.

I'll be there Sunday too ! :TU:

Not sure if the W-31 is going to follow me down or not. :Do No: I've got a bunch going on right now, and may just come down to hang out. I wouldn't wanna dip the car into the 12.70's without a bunch of non-Olds folks around ...... :puzzled: :bglasses:

I hear you Brian, but you gotta get in line. While Rob was driving the car, lotsa people thought I needed a driver. Really, I don't. Rob is one of those exceptional people that can outdrive about anyone I've seen since Dave Strickler in the original "Old Reliable" back in the sixties. Or John Molnar in Brady's car, or a guy I never saw drive also named Marks...................

I used to drive my 4 speed B/MP Valiant (don't tell Mike Wowk I ever had a Mopar, could destroy an image) back in the sixties, still think racing an automatic is for those "girlie boys" that ARNOLD spoke of :
    " I be back!"

Dave, have a riot and kick butt, I went down there about 5 or so years ago for the Olds thing, and was very interesting, almost as good as our Buick Race, well for an Olds race it was great and amazing, just like our Buick Race is amazing, too, what folks can do with these 'old' cars! Take lots of pictures. RV
