First time using the Pro Magnum lifters in my fresh 430 with roller rockers are noisy. Anyone else have similar results. I adjusted them to .002 preload as per Comp Cams. Thanks for any input
Just a thought but what cam are you using? I don't even know if they offer these cams for a BBB but I have a Comp Cams Extreme Energy with Pro Magnum lifters in my SBC and it sounds like solid lifters. I even swapped lifters but it did no good. Comp Cams told me it was the lobe design, that it had very fast rams that basically slam the valves shut, which is the noise I hear. I have asked everyone I know who has had experience with these and pretty much get the same answer.
Craig YES! YES! I bought a comp cam with their brand lifters, I did not ask if they were the specific name you have but it was all Comp Cam recommendation. I had the roller rockers as well so this is not your problem. This camshaft made so much noise I set it back for a credit. They were very good about this but the problem was a night mare. I tried everything for almost a whole year to fix it before sending it back. They found nothing wrong with it but because thay had made all the recommends they stood by it. When I replaced it with my old camshaft the problem went away. Good Luck. Slugger
Wrong lifters will do that. Those lifters are ok used them many times but engine is very noisey if you have aggresive ramp profiles.
There are better fast action cam profiles out there that don't exhibit those type of characteristics. Harold's Voodoo and CCC profiles are fast ramp but have standard closing velocities which avoid the valve closing noise.
