I recently installed a Remaned Master on my 70 GS and it was the third one in the span of a month the first 2 had odd problems

the 1st one i installed had the primary and secondary cups placed backwards in the chamber so the fluid was free to do what it wanted which ment the pedal to the floor before it decided to stop hehehe

the second one worked for about a week and then i found out that there was a hairline crack down the side of it slowly leaking brake fluid all over my exhaust header (didnt smell pretty)

I just hope i have better luck with this one seems to be stopping alright for now i just cant seem to trust remaned parts anymore

if it fails again ill rebuild it myself ohh yea im never buying brake components at NAPA auto anymore 2 masters and 1 wheel cyl all bad from that same store hehehe

Last several re-man master cylinders I've had to deal with have all had problems either right out of the box or within a few weeks time. Replaced all of them with new Autozone (yeah I know...) and ZERO problems...

As with many things, especially those dealing with Autozone your mileage may vary...

The last master I saw from auto zone was thier rebuilt brand "fenco" and it had a new sleeve pressed in it. Only cost $15. One I saw from NAPA had rust pits in the bore.:bglasses:

Wow this is the first I've heard of "bad' NAPA parts.
I've always relied on them for quality.

Yup, I just bought a new disk master cylinder for my 69 from Autozone. works great. $13.99, $12.72 with military discount

Have had NO luck with the NEW AZ ones! First one, the fronts would not bleed. Second one, the backs wouldn't.
Used a rebuilt and had no problem. Go figure. Guess it depends on who was having a bad day. :Dou:

wonder if thats what mine is doin now. went with a NEW autozone one and i can't get a firm pedal. and pumping it up dosen't do anything. i returned one already under lifetime warranty cause i lost the reciept after a week. :af: but this one works exactly the same way. though I also did replace all the lines on the car too. it took it awhile to bleed correctly. but i still cant get a firm pedal.

Do the new ones look exactly like the original Delco casting or are they different?

The bleeding problem may be b/c they usually remove the check valves from the rebuilt ones whick makes bleeding them much easier. You really don't need those.:bglasses:

not sure if the new ones look exactly like OEM delco, I've never paid attention to OEM boosters b4 on these when i've seen them. it has a rectangular resivor portion with the very small rear portion and pretty large front one. it was for a disc front drum rear car.

it was a Fenco brand MC.

They look close, but are not exactly the same. The original disc master had bleeder valves and the replacements don't.
The problem I had was that you bench bled the master OK but once on the car you couldn't get fluid to come out of the calipers or the wheel cylinders.
When the 30+ year old master was put on, all bled perfectly. This led me to believe that it had to be a master problem. Only problem is that the old master was leaking from the back.
Again, just what happened in my case.

yea i had the same thing where it wouldent bleed at first (i'd pull 30" of vacuum thru it to and nothing. then all of a sudden it just let loose.) It let loose when we pumped and drew vacuum on the end and it still took a long time to get it to do that.. hmm.. makes me wonder if there all made incorrectly... I should see if they'll honor and exchange for a reman' one.
