I just inherited a daily driver which is an 87 Nissan pickup 2WD. I know nothing about Nissans so I just have a few questions. 1. The brakes are very soft. When I push on the pedal it goes all the way to the floor. I can pump the brakes and make the pedal stiffer but as I drive it softens again. The brake fluid is full and I can't find any leaks. The vacuum line from the booster to the intake looks like there are no leaks as well. What should I look for next? 2. The previous owner uses Amsoil synthetic oil. He changes his oil once a year or every 10K miles. Is this a good practice on an engine that has 194,000 miles on it? 3. This truck has the 2.4L 4 cyl. engine but it has 8 spark plugs. What's up with that? 4. Haynes or Chilton manual? Thanks, MARK
I would lean towards considering an internal leak in your master cylinder. The small seals around the plunger rod that moves when you push the pedal are probably bypassing a bit and letting the brake pressure "fade". I would put a new master cylinder on it, and bleed the entire system. As for the spark plugs, Nissan used to use 2 per cylinder in the eighties on their four poppers.
Chevy small blocks with a Turbo 350 work real well with these. Or anything else for that matter. Chop off the front, weld on the subframe from an F body Camaro or Firebird. Then back half it with a 4 link (easy to tub a pickup). Chop the top about 3 1/2 inches, slam it down about 6 inches, and fill the box with amplifiers and speakers. "Yeah, that's how you do it.."
