Nice rims, eh?

  1. 2 of my 3 free 15x7 rims arrived today, and they look mighty nice! Thanks George:TU:

  2. Now, this one does have a little surface rust around the outside area of the chrome. What can I do to remove this without damaging the rest of the chrome? :Do No:

000 steel wool and a nice light touch then a coat of wax works for me. Now your in the same boat as me with 3-15" rims and looking for 1 more.

  4. I've got lots of 0000 steel wool, I'll give that a try first and see if it will clean it up.

My 14" tires have another summer, maybe 2, left on the tread, so I've got time to round up 2 more 15" rims. Maybe I'll try posting a swap next year for my current decent condition 14's.

try your 0000 steel wool with a little wheel cleaner, like Mothers. or a little Nev'r Dull works good too!

00, on the chrome? That seems kind of harsh, won't it scratch it up?

  9. Guys, thanks for the rust cleanup suggestions.

I have the extra 235 60R15 BFG Radial T/A mounted on one rim already, and I'll test fit it this weekend, and see how it looks.

Good info guys - thanks for the tips. I need to do the wheels on my pickup this fall yet. After I get them cleaned up I was thinking of powder-coating them with a clear. A couple friends of mine run a powder-coating operation & said they think they can get a clear but have never used it. Anyone here tried it?

Oh, how could I forget -

David/DugsSin - are these a year or body-style specific wheel you're looking for? I have a pair of 15x7's I don't need any longer (had 15x8's made...puuurty heehee). They came to me for free. I just might be persuaded to break up the pair & let 'em go for the same price. I think they originally came off a late 70's to early 80's Electra or possibly an 81-83 Turbo Regal . The stamping on the back is as follows:

    1 0 17 78 15x7
    903 MW DOT
    4

The face is pretty nice, just a tiny bit of surface rust again. The backs are pretty rusty, as is the inside area.

David - sideline discussion - Seems like there are a lot of upper-midwest members on the board. Do you think there be enough to try putting together a weekend outing next summer? The track there at Sabin maybe?

  15. Greg, I'm interested in the 15x7's you have. If Doug wanted one, that's cool with me too. I'm not sure what to make of the MW code. If they are late 70's - early 80's they should be ok for disc brakes. Any chance of a pic of them?

I think the get-together is a great idea. There are 3 of us here in Fargo, myself, Ed and Mark. We've been talking about getting together this summer, but it just hasn't happened. Next summer is a great idea. Mark runs at Sabin, I don't think Ed races, I haven't yet, but want to, but my engine isn't sounding so great lately, bad lifter, and some knocking... :ball: Too bad I can't do the 455 anytime soon.

  16. Greg, I assume they are 4 3/4 pattern? I would think an Electra would have had 5" bolt pattern? Anything from a Regal would fit. I'm not picky about what year they came off of, 15's weren't ever available on my 68 anyway.

These are a 4 3/4 pattern. I don't have a digital camera to snap a couple of quick pics (in the works tho...) You're right on the 5x5 pattern on the big cars - and I just posted that exact info in a reply on another thread (d'oh!). They must be off a turbo regal then. Buddy of mine gave 'em to me. He pulled the shell of a turbo regal out of a local junkyard to make a street stock. They threw these rims on it to get onto his trailer (nice bonus!) I'll post pics if I can find a camera to borrow.

I know of a few other Buick guys around that'd probably run out there for a weekend. Is there a track in Watertown too? Thought I'd heard there was, but never hear anything about it. If so, any idea how they compare?

  18. Greg, I haven't been to Sabin since they remodeled after the 2002 season. Mark Dalquist can give us a review. I think he commented that it was pretty nice. I'll bet they have pics on their website, www.interstatedragways.com

I'm not worried about pics, unless it is convenient for you to have a couple taken. I'll take one for sure, and let's see if Doug wants the other one. If not, I'll take both.

I haven't heard about a track in Watertown, and don't think I've seen any signs on I-29 any of the hundred times I've been past there. Doesn't mean there isn't one though. I don't know anyone there to ask.
