G’day everyone from Australia, Ben here. I have just bought a 1971 GS Stage 1 that is in the tender loving hands of my brother-in-law Richard (hence the username). You could say that it was an impulse purchase, as I went to see a guy about a different car that he had advertised for sale and we had to move the Buick in order to get to it. Long story short, I bought both cars. If you’d been there and heard the GS when it fired up, you’d want it too. To be honest, the only Buick that has been on my list of Cars I Want to Own is the boat-tail Riviera , specifically a ‘71 or a ‘72 - I got to drive a ‘72 once almost 35 years ago when I was in my teens - but here I am, owner of a different car with a dirty great 455 in it (BTW, also on my list is the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado; 455 cubic inches and front wheel drive woot woot). Maybe one day I will swap the GS for a Riviera. Cheers
Actually I bought three cars that day as a job lot, the other two were a 1972 Australian Ford XA Fairmont sedan and a 1966 Mustang convertible (which is the car I went to look at). I also have owned a Canadian production factory right-hand-drive (we drive on the left side of the road in these here parts) 1963 Impala four-door hardtop since the 1980s.
That was coincidental, I just wanted sunlight to illuminate the interior and the car was facing the trailer ready for winching on. She’s never been registered in Australia despite being here for almost 15 years and I didn’t want to risk driving her more than 100km (60 miles) over some pretty bad rural roads.
Welcome. IIRC, there was a car similar to this one what was owned by a member of the board that somehow was sold and exported to AUS. Same car??? I was part of inspecting a Centurion Convertible that was sold to a buyer in France a few years later.
