Basically you will need some sort of exhaust on this engine to enjoy it the most. Doesn't need to be headers, but a good mandrel bent 2.5" system
Boy am I sure late to the party! Welcome lightning! (Jallen7166). The guys here really know their stuff, so there is good info to be found. Not to mention most have killed a few Chevies with Grandma's old Buick. Lol. It won't be long and you'll be doing the same. Glad to hear that 455 is coming together for ya.
The rocker arms tip just press into the end of the rockers. Be careful of the replacement tips they "Were" like 4 times thicker than a stock tip. Don't know if this has been corrected or not. Don't seem like much but if you measure for pushrods with the old tips the new pushrods will end up to long & IF you install the pushrods you will more than likely be at the bottom of the lifter travel or worse hold the valves open. You are right so much knowledge here used to think I could do it but nope buick is soooooooooo different
Larry I just found a cam from a company I used a lot with chevy stuff it is 265 275 215 230 at . 050 112 lsa with .470 .505 lift at the factory 1.55 rocker what ya think
I like it. Car has gone 12.30 109. 4000 lbs. My heads are at shop now being inspected and getting new cosmetic .030 head gaskets. 73 455 small valve motor. Made 14” vacuum.
the cam I ran in my 430 was a custom crower. .518/.518 with 1.6 rockers. 242/242 @ .050. 310/310 advertised. 23* overlap @ .050 106 intake center with 110 lobe seperation. this cam will not run power brakes without some help, I would think it would need more help than just a canister, i bet it needs the assistance of an auxiliary vacuum pump. it only had 6 or 7" at idle. but has a real mean sound, would cold idle on even cool fall days at 700
This is the 455 I built in 1990. I sold it (and the car) in 1999 to a guy local to me. Well, about an hour away. 1970 block .030 over NOS timing cover 1970 heads converted to Stage valves with a mild port job PAW (remember them??) engine kit. Crank turned 10/10 Lunati SP2 Cam - degreed, which has since been changed to a Comp cam that I think is around the same specs. Reconditioned rods, ARP bolts. Stock rocker arms/shafts GSCA adjustable pushrods. Shortblock was balanced. SP1 intake and Mickey Thompson S/S headers. This motor is 30 years old and I'm told it still runs like a bear. It ran consistent 12.30's in a fully optioned 72 Stage 1. I pounded the hell out of that thing for a good 8 years. Haha
Larry found another obscure cam kinda interesting 281 289 227 235 .501 .501 109 howards cam rattler ? My dcr calculator won't refresh so last two cams had no idea but thought I would post the cams bc no one on here talks about them maby you could gibe good insight. Thanks
