New TA Solid Lifter Option, Anyone using them?

Will be upgrading from a 413 to a 308S cam, ordered the parts today. Hoping for 60+ more HP.

I opted for the more expensive solid lifter set Part #TA1410B. Apparently they have better cam lobe oiling properties due to an added bottom oil hole on the lifter.

Is anyone running these new 'exclusive' lifters or know more info about them?

I am a firm believer of 'you get what you pay for'.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    i have them.

but since the engine isnt together i cant say how they perform.

the hole in the bottom is tiny, but i suppose its better than nothing.

They are not the same. Those would have been Chevy lifters. The TA ones are the TA 1410 BUICK solid lifter that we sent a batch out to have the EDM hole added. That's why they are more $. We nick named them the "CamSaver". We have about a dozen sets out there now. The results, which is direct oil to the area with the highest load and heat, will be the same as the Chevy's which they have been using for a few years now.

Has this ever been done on hydraulic lifters? Seems like a good idea to get some oil where its needed.

I believe at this time the oil hole, while extremely small, still effects the hydraulic action of the lifter.

Hey guys, Thanks for the responces.

The current springs in the heads are the TA1125 set. The actual blueprinted spring pressures and data are as follows:
    Closed 145# @ 1.850"
    Open 340# @ 1.250"
    Coil bind @ 1.070"
    Seal to retainer 0.850"

Im using the 1.65 roller rockers which should net valve lift numbers of:
    Intake 0.616" / Exhaust 0.601"

I would think these spring pressures would be sufficent for the 308S cam?
The engine should be seeing 6200RPM at the track.

If there are any issues on the valve train with this data in mind, someone please speak up here.

Dave, can you tell us what the 'EDM' terminology stands for?

Electrical Discharge Machining. A few freinds of mine run these machines.
Also my brother inlaw has a few as he owns a Mold Shop in Mich.. I may get this done to my TA1410's.

    Graham,

Nothing to do with the lifters, but the car looks good. I like the black hood with the blue and white scheme for some reason. :TU:

Thanks Jeff, The car will be going in for paint soon and I'm still contemplating the vinyl top color...

With the awesome heads I have now and the 413 cam, valve lift numbers are 0.532".

    Combustion Chambers at 69 cc's
Intake At 263cc's with 2.26" Valves
Exhaust at 179cc's with 1.755" Valves

    Valve Intake Exhaust
    0.050 38.70 30.10
    0.100 50.20 57.20
    0.200 149.40 121.90
    0.300 213.60 167.50
    0.400 276.00 196.80
    0.450 303.00 212.60
    0.500 329.50 226.10
    0.550 349.30 233.70
    0.575 356.50 236.20
    0.600 361.60 237.50

As stated above the 308s valve lift numbers will be Intake 0.616" and Exhaust 0.601"

TA413 Cam Currently Netting: Dynamic Compression: 8.56:1
    Static Compression is: 11.47:1

Assuming a 60+ HP increase should not be out of line I think... It will probably loose some torque although. Any input here?

I like it just the way it is. I also like the roofs painted "White or black" instead of the vinyl on certain cars. Just a thought.

Buddy here in Canada said he will do it no problem I just need to dissasemble them first and decide on the size hole.

You are correct Dave. I just looked at the package and it does say BBC lifters. I got them from Geoff along with all the other parts (pushrods, springs set, roller rockers etc etc) from TA and just assumed them to be yours. He slipped them in there. :pp

    Graham,

I stuck Crowers solid lifters with the EDM hole on my 308S about a year and a half ago with no ill effects. This is before T/A had offered anything out on this. Oil press is 30 to 60 psi at back of block with a front to rear oil balance line.

With those valve spring pressures for a street strip car you may want to consider the cam gear oiler. I thought I'd try it this time but was skeptical over pressure/volume loss. It's Negligible.

You'll be impressed with the 308S and really good flowing heads. IMHO I always thought thats what your combo needed.

Right on Tom. Thanks for the reply. Yea, its time for the swap.

Ran it fairly hard this past summer. Still haven't got the thing to hook completely.

Went to a couple of 100 foot shoot outs and the best time I could manage was 2.501 seconds... sideways through the traps on a 0.5 sec NHRA Tree.

Made it to the track once (Calgary Intl Speedway) for the Buick get together and got rained out.

At a 30 mph roll it totally hazes the 275 60 R15 MT ET Street Radials now. Have some Hoosier 29.0/9.0-15's on order for next year, and a few tricks up my sleeve.

Soon to be in the process of the winter tear down. Ordered the complete set of race bearings in advance.

Curious to see what the rod bearings look like with that early closing intake valve issue with the 413.

    308

    Hi Graham,
I just brought my motor home from AMP with that 308 last week. Your going to like it.
    http://www.automachperf.com/buickdyno.html

When I ordered my parts earlier this year from TA they sold me the 1410 lifters and didn't mention anything to me about this new lifter. I hope I don't run into any problems.

    Later

Don't worry use good oil and EOS from any GM dealer and you will be fine. My machinest cut a small slot in the bottom of the lifter bore to give you the same effect as the lifter.
