Welcome to the site! What a nice car you have there!

The engine is a 64 Buick 300 cubic inch engine with the alum heads and intake, 250 hp at about 4600 rpms and 355 foot pounds of torque at about 2400 rpms, 11:1 compression ratio.

The intake and heads were a one year only item so they are fairly desirable to people with other year 300s.

Thanks for the info sean. I found out what size it was when I went to do a tune up. Guess I should keep the motor! Washed and polished all the chrome sat and drove her all weekend!:TU: Any info on this year car would be helpful, it is my first buick!

Yep, Ed , that is a nice ride... I raced that engine back in the 60's and it is one of the best that Buick has made... and yes it is 11.1 compression, so nothing but the best gas for it.... and be advised that the engine will have a slight quiver to it , at idle, that you cannot tune out.... it is normal....the crank is cast nodular iron,,, the rods are malable iron,,, so about 5500 rpm is the limit....
That engine responds well to a distributer recurve, a cold air pkg, low restriction exhaust, normal oil pressure is in the 35 lb range.. temp should be 180 deg. go to the wrenching secrets section and look at my list of cheap tricks,,, they work well on that car......

Going to get my new exhaust on today. Staying stock, except putting on a magnaflow and duals out the back!:)

I am also looking at getting a new carb and rebuilding the old one. Never hurts to have a back up. Any suggestions on what cfm and brand that works best with the 300?

those stock exhaust manifolds are the very next thing to headers,,, the only improvement on those would be to port match them and smooth up the insides and outsides.....and 2 in. pipes all the way to the back bumper....

Ed what I am trying to ''splain'' here is ,,,, the factory exhaust manifolds are as good as headers on a street driven car.... they are very well designed.... the only way to improve them is to port match and smooth up the inside and outside...

No, have you already had the system put on.... on a lot of buicks the head pipes were 2'' and the tail pipes were 1 3/4'' .... not good.... need 2'' all the way back....most muffler shops go 2'' all the way... any way there is always next time....

We left all the stock tubing, replaced the old muffler with the magnaflow and put two 2" pipes out the back. The new one instead of being 1 into 1, its now 2 into 1, with 2" pipe. I just drove it home and sounds and feels real good. Not loud, but not quiet either. Just right. What do ya think about my carb question?

the 300 will handel 600 cfm with vacume secondaries..... or the type that ebrock has.... As much as i love holleys ,, the ebrocks would be the easiest for you to make work.... I had a carter afb on mine back in the 60s. and i took the intake to a machine shop and had them to make the front holes in the intake the same size as the back holes...but since then I have discovered the ''doc dual plane mod'' and that works much better... i never have done a 300 manifold that way but I am sure that it can be done... but be extra carefull if you do it because the 300 manifold has water passages in it... dont want to strike water... if your carb is a wcfb then you definitly would benifet from a carb swap... if it is a afb maby not so much... it never hurts to have a spare carb laying around,,, right now I have 5 laying in the shop....besides what are on my cars....  as far as what works best, best would be a holley 4150 with vac secondaries... may be more trouble to make work , but definitly worth it.... but the ebrock may be easier to make work... check both of them out very carefully, before you start....

    Welcome!!
Where you at in Texas? It is a big state ya know!

I guess you could say I have a thing for the 64 LeSabres/Wildcats.
Beautiful car! Needs just a little TLC to make it a sweet ride.

If you are still lookin for some bumper ends in a couple months hit me up! I am currently away for the time being. I have a stash of parts for the 64 Buicks, and I need to downsize.

If you have any questions about the 64 hit me up!!
