I have been reading from this site for about 2 months now and decided to join. I have purchased my first Buick in June. It is a 64 skylark that somebody put a 350 chevy into. I know, its a sin. I want to remove this and put in a 455 out of a 76 Electra with a 400 shortshaft. I have purchased seats,15X7 rally wheels and plan on putting 255/60r/15 in back and 235's in front. I hope this works. I need to find a posi for it and have been told I must go with a 12 bolt out of a 64-67 Chevelle, Buick, Olds or Pontiwreck. My questions are: do I need the 12 bolt or will a 10 do and if go 12 bolt how wide can the tires be if I use one out of a 68-72 car? I am also wondering about the rear ratio I should go with.I also need some interior parts for a 64 skylark. Steering wheel would be the most important.

    Thanks
    Ed

  2. Well, fancy meeting you here, Ed! Welcome to V8Buick, you've come to the right place for help with your car. I'm afraid I can't provide much info myself, other than to say, I don't think you NEED to go to a 12 bolt rear for your car...I don't know why an 8.5 10 bolt wouldn't work also...although I'm not familiar with the particulars of a 64 model. And for parts, feel free to post a want ad in the "parts wanted" forum, at the bottom of the main page. Feel free to post a pic of your Skylark if you have one. Is it running and roadworthy as it sits now? Maybe we can get together in the spring/summer and enjoy each others rides! See mine in my avatar under my user name. If you need help posting a pic, or setting up an avatar to use, let me know, either PM or email me! :TU:

Thanks. I would also see your post and wonder if you were local with the eastern ND location. Looks like your picture was taken outside RDO with the Spray-Aires in the back ground. I need to set up my pm button and get a picture of the car.

  4. I've had my location listed both as Fargo, and as eastern ND...kind of went away from listing Fargo for security reasons I guess. But I've just changed it back.

Actually my pic was taken where I work, at Horvick Mfg, a few miles north of Fargo. The RDO's are customers of ours though.

    Ed,

I'm glad to hear you are going to purify your Buick!! Now just take that Chevy 350 to the scrap yard and collect your 10 bucks!!

By the way I'm running an 8.5 10 bolt behind my 455. I've got a TH-350 and I haven't broken anything yet. I'll let you know which is the first to go!!:TU:
